Delicious food and friendly

This is unequivocally one of my most favourite old world pubs in the Yorkshire Dales. A friendly, warm welcome, a great pint (the best Theakston's in the county), and good wholesome food. All this is in one of the best walking/ hiking areas in the Yorkshire Dales NP. Reasonable prices, log fire, fantastic surroundings. Simply ace.Walkability: Great place to strike out from for hikes and dog friendly. Malham Tarn, Penn-y-Ghent, Great Whernside, Buckden Pike. Nestled in the beautiful Littondale with easy access to Wharfedale and Langstrothdale... hikers paradise.

Very nice quaint village pub. Lovely village green right outside. The village green is used as a filming location for All Creatures Great and Small.

The pub is in a nice location but the staff were rude. If you are planning a walk, maybe plan another stop! Also the outside toilets were not clean.

This is the most miserable pub in the world perfectly complemented by its even more miserable staff -- especially the humourless oaf behind the bar who loves the sound of his own voice but has nothing interesting to say. It's the sort of place where you'll never find locals, and that should tell you everything you need to know. It survives on the back of The Woolpack, and for no other reason than this. There are far more welcoming pubs in neighbouring villages.PS - I wanted to give this zero stars, but Google won't let me comment unless I give it a star.

It pains me greatly to have to write this because I have been visiting this pub and sending people here for decades. It used to be my favourite place for cask ale and atmosphere in Yorkshire. But it appears they have just given up on actually wanting custom as well as any sense of friendliness whatsoever. After booking three rooms for visiting friends, then realising I had mistakenly entered the wrong weekend, I called the pub immediately who told me, abruptly, verging on rudely, that it wasn't their problem, pal. No, they could not change it to the dates needed. No, they couldn't refund me. I raised it with the booking platform, who contacted the management, who again refused any dialogue. They would be charging my card and that was an end to it. I could - if I wanted - cancel the booking, but they'd still charge the full amount. Lovely. So here I was, paying for three rooms for friends (note - I wasn't even visiting) that the pub knew couldn't visit on those dates. They had me on a technicality and delighted in that fact. No common sense could prevail. Surely, I wondered and petitioned, it made sense to actually have people in the pub, buying food and beer on those dates? No. What mattered was forcing me to pay for rooms that they knew I couldn't actually occupy, rather than working on a solution to benefit everyone. I should say that this was all booked well in advance of the date people were staying, so it's not like they had bought food or drink based on the booking; what's more it was immediately after they received the booking. I spent 15 years reviewing pubs and restaurants for broadsheets; I have never experienced such a poor and intentionally bloody minded policy. Short-term cash in hand over anything approaching long-term sustainability or regard to their reputation. Well, it was their loss. I was forced to go elsewhere with the three internationally acclaimed brewers that had come to England to experience great pubs. We stayed in the Red Lion, Burnsall, which was great and went to the Craven Arms in Appletreewick for stunning beers. Service in each was wonderful and accommodating. They have now gone back to Denmark to recommend those same places to their brewing friends, who will no doubt come and book. And recommend on. That's how it works. The more I read of the people who run this old institution, the more I fear for its future. If my experience is anything to go by, the stories of rudeness over the bar and of a greedy, grabby, money-is-all-that-matters mindset are likely to be true. Beware, and be warned.

The most wonderful quirky pub you'll ever come across. Well worth a detour to Arncliffe to visit for something to eat or just a drink. You just need to get there for the experience.

Asked for coffee or cup of tea & was abruptly told they don't sell coffee or tea, even tho they are clearly pictures of people who have been in the past with cups of coffee & tea as you can see if the pictures I've provided that someone uploaded, Very bizarre behaviour?

We loved the location of this authentic inn. Driving there was a real adventure. The welcome was friendly. We enjoyed the quirky sense of humor of the proprietor. All in all we felt welcome and we feel this is a true authentic place to stay in the area. The Falcon Inn has an interesting rustic interior full of ornaments and memorabilia from distant times. Interesting to look at. The atmosphere was friendly. Dinner was basic but tasty. We felt it was a little overpriced for what it was (£16, 50 for fish and chips). We enjoyed having a few drinks in the cozy pub downstairs. However at £6, 50 a glass, the red wine also felt a little expensive. The room had tea & coffee facilities and a big canopy bed. The room was spacious enough, but a bit dated. We felt that carpets weren't the most hygienic option for the room. Breakfast was a hearty full English with some continental options. We did not have WiFi in the room or mobile data reception. There was also no fridge or TV present (not the end of the world). The private bathroom was very dated and could be cleaner. The water pressure in the shower was disappointing. The room got quite hot at night.
