Had lunch at this inviting little café on a short visit to Helmsley. It's in a charming stone cottage just a couple of minutes walk from the castle, which you get a good view of from the outside tables. It's also very homely inside, with restful blue decor, and some nice plants and pictures. The banquette was comfy, and the tables and the café generally were very clean. I was given a really warm welcome, and the lady who served me was attentive throughout my lunch, checking that the food was just right. Good choice of drinks including coffee, speciality teas, and Fentimans traditional soft drinks. I ordered a bottle of dandelion and burdock, and it was a refreshing accompaniment to my meal. The menu is not extensive, but there's a nice selection of light meals including jacket potatoes, homemade soup, sandwiches and toasties. I chose the ploughman's lunch, and it turned out to be a real feast, with thick slices of good quality ham, a pork pie, two types of cheese, dressed salad, apple slices, pickled gherkins, chutney, and two thick slices of soft seeded bread with butter. Everything on the plate was fresh and tasty, and the portions were generous. Good value for money too. Would certainly recommend this cafe both for the food and the friendly hospitality.

SHOCKING SERVICE. Rude. Waited over 40 minutes , nobody came to take our order or inform us of any delay. They just ignored us. Rude.

Visited in 2024 so decided to visit again with our little dog. It certainly doesn't disappoint, my GF Tuna sandwich with salad was delicious, the bread was the best I have tasted, would love to know who makes it. My husband had the Ham salad that to looked delicious and he said it was really good and fresh. Staff as usual were very friendly and helpful, although they were busy they never made you feel rushed. Absolutely worth a visit if you come to Helmsley. We will definitely be back before we go home. Thank you all for a lovely lunch.

Beautiful location in the heart of the village and the food was fantastic. We were looked after by Lee who was a 5 star host. We will be back for sure!

Couldn?t recommend this place more. We were a table of 4 (+ a 1 year old) all of us thoroughly enjoyed the food and drinks sat in a sun trap outside and the service from staff was exceptional with all very accommodating. Special shoutout to the owner Lee who is going above and beyond to return something to us that we left accidentally. We will be back ?

I had the ploughman?s lunch today and it was very disappointing. The produce looked as if it had been bought in a local supermarket. I would have expected some local artisan produce given how pricey it was (£16).
My wife had the posh cheese on toast, which again was disappointing (far to much mustard and Worcestershire sauce).
Best thing about the whole experience was the tea.

Nice cappuccino, pot of tea, with carrot and lemon cakes. Sat outside on the new, very comfy rattan furniture. It was a beautiful sunny day watching the world go by. Thanks to the staff for looking after us.

Lovely outdoor seating, fresh new interior but very average food. A simple menu including sandwiches & baked potatoes plus daily specials. Much better choices all around here.

We received a friendly welcome from staff, who made an effort to find our party of five a table. We had the ploughmans option, which included a pork pie (yum) and the baked camembert - both were tasty and good value. We sat inside but there are tables outside with a pretty view. And dogs appear to be welcome.

Really enjoyed lunch here. Staff were friendly and helpful. Simple little touches that made this café memorable, like a slice of cheese with chutney, served with my wife's cheese scone. I decided to eat healthy (for a change), and ordered the falafel bean salad which was delicious!

Loved that sitting outside was an option, even in the rain thanks to the great parasols; also dog friendly which is super helpful on holiday.
Opted to try the sausage roll and it came out warmed perfectly and served with applewood cheese and chilli jam. How have I never heard of this? Absolutely delicious. Shared the delicious tiramisu traybake. Lovely Yorkshire tea served too. Will definitely be back to try the warm cheese scone!!

Beautiful spot near the centre. Staff were really friendly and went out of their way to give my dad something off the breakfast menu after time
