This tiny pub is a portal into a bygone era of British communal life. Step through its doors and into the miniscule bar and you will be warmed not only by the open fire but also by the true friendliness of all those inside. With a maximum capacity of maybe a dozen folk in the main room you will be sat so close to others you will be compelled to chat and make company. With a discouragement of electronics you will find yourself deep in conversation in no time. This is rather a unique experience in 2023 but a welcome one.The beer is totally top notch and the prices very reasonable.I cannot recommend this pub enough. This is Britain as I imagine it used to be. It is not part of a chain. It does not serve generic plates of food. It does not have children dashing about. There is no TV, music or gambling machine. It is great beer, good company and conversation. Every village and town should have one. Brilliant!

Incredible pub, great atmosphere and sublime service. The Anchor Inn is a traditional pub, full of nice, welcoming locals, and even nicer staff. Their Taddy Lager was my favourite, but they have a wide selection of own signature Sam Smith brews. I would recommend this to any adults looking for a good pub night. No dogs or children allowed, and tech detox encouraged. They have a conservatory, cosy rooms and two fireplaces, as well as a beer garden to open soon, darts and common pub games. Great location, close to many shops, with a BnB next door. Come visit if this sounds like the place for you, and possibly see you there!

Great to see the Anchor Inn Pub open and how lucky were we as it had only just reopened. A lovely couple are at the helm and doing a fantastic job. The place is spotlessly clean, beer is great and the the new managers are on top of their game. Long may it remain open.

This popular pub has gone to the dogs recently. The tennant, who started with great promise, has lost his drive and annihlated regulars who no longer frequent the pub. He closes early, even though he is paid to serve to time and gives out an unpleasant atmosphere. Humphrey, take note.

Sam Smith pubs are different, if you follow the brewery rules as the landlord has to, you should enjoy this pub. The building is grade 2 listed, a typical Victorian pub which retains an old style bar, a true drinking room. The no mobiles rule is strictly adhered to so people talk to each other. The landlord is friendly, the customers are friendly! We drank Old Brewery Bitter served by handpump and from an Oak cask. It was fit as a butchers dog. We just stumbled on this pub,a pleasant surprise after a 13 mile up and downhill walk. The other pubs in Guisborough are nothing to write home about , this one makes up for all the others!

We were 9 of us playing games and drinking in the back room . No TV or canned music . It was warm coat and drinks were good . At the moment they do not serve food just bar nibbles . But the beer and ambience was good . Well done .
