What a lovely building! Outside a bucket full of soapy water and soft bristled brush for cleaning muddy boots a nice touch. Neat, clearly written signs, friendly welcome, lovely spacious indoors with a log burning stove warming the room. The freshly made Hummingbird Cake was delightfully moist and had wonderful flavour, strongly recommended!! Owners were so helpful when we asked about walks to take with our dog to see local waterfalls. Gave us tips to avoid congested areas and told us the best places to park too. Cant beat local knowledge! We loved our visit to the Old School Coffee Shop. Very welcoming, great quality food and drinks available, clean, spacious but cosy premises. Thank you for your welcome and advice for the walk to the Falling Foss.

Popped in for a takeaway coffee with the dog on a really rainy morning. Alarm bells rang straight away with signs dotted everywhere asking you not to touch or move stuff outside. Upon entering, without time to even orientate myself, I was barked at to remove my wet waterproof and towel off my dog, lest I drip on the floor. Stating I was only wanting a takeaway coffee, the gent serving realised that his attitude was out of line and soften slightly, though the damage was already done. Felt very unwelcoming, I remained stood on the door mat until my coffee was ready and left.

Cafe is a short distance off the high street - between the level crossing and the engine sheds. Inside and outside seating and the interior design is a bit quirky but in a good way. Had two wonderful bacon butties and a good pot of tea. Let down by a very burnt Latte and perception was that the coffee was of a lower quality than say Botham's or Mr Coopers Coffee house in Whiby. No staff issues.

Having just got off the train we'd just arrived at the doorway of the Old School House when my friends,my wife and myself were rudely told to get out of the doorway you won't get served any quicker by male waiter. Maybe change your attitude and you wouldn't have lost four meals!!! You're doorway certainly won't be used by us again. Rude and ignorant male waiter suggest you learn how to talk to people with respect. Especially if you're the owner

Stopped to the Old School coffee shop after a 13 km picturesque walk around Grosmont. Great location, friendly staff and such great food! We had soup of the day which was brought out to us by the chef and I have got to say it was next level! Highly recommend the place! Dietary restrictions: We requested vegan food

A lovely friendly cafe, with lots of character. We had cake and coffee, which was delicious. They also do meals. It is a great location, especially for a ferroequinologist or more commonly known as a person who studies trains for a hobby. As the steam trains run past it. The staff were very friendly. I would definitely recommend it. Also, there is a nice walk that follows the railway for a bit, then cuts through a really nice wooded area and returns to the village.

This place is great entertainment if you want to watch the proprietor abusing his customers. Don't queue where the board is saying wait here to be seated, you'll get a right earful. Don't spend too long eating or drinking, you'll be evicted, don't ask how much something costs, you'll get a tirade on what margins are made.... I enjoyed the banter, eat people like him for breakfast, but if you're of a nervous disposition try any other cafe or fasting. ?

We stopped here for a drink while out walking from Egton Bridge. We took shelter under the vine covered gazebo and watched as a couple of classic trains pass us by and drunk our tea and coffees. Lovely location in the old school by the side of the train tracks, with a viewing platform for enthusiasts to see the trains. Friendly staff, great prices and food looked lovely (we didn't have anything, but wished we did!)

Nice food but very unpleasant staff and not child friendly at all which is a shame as why shouldn?t children experience the beauty of the area and the railway. The rude man made a comment about ?the mess this child had left!?. There was little mess as I had got down on my hands and knees to clean up the few crumbs my toddler had made. Also my little boy has dietary needs so I bring a packed lunch for him and yes we had brought food from the establishment so not like we hadn?t bought anything from there. My little boy had a couple of little snack custard pots which he had eaten and I left the couple of small empty pots on my plate when we had finished so hardly a mess at but clearly was an issue. Definitely avoid if you have children! Not child friendly at all and not that pleasant to the adults either!
