After a good day of hiking the Cleveland Way we arrived in the Fox&Hound Hotel in Slapewath and recieven a very warm welcome indeed! The person was very nice to our children who were very hungry. The family room was neat and tidy, and had everything we needed. The dinner was scrumptious. Because the hotel was near a busy road, we feared some noise, but the room was very quiet indeed! We felt most welcome and the children don?t not to leave the next day Just what you need after a good hike!

On first impressions the building looks dated but this doesn't take away from the attentive staff and appeal for me. I stayed for one night in room 3 and the double bed was just perfect. Although a little small, the room has everything I needed to compliment my stay. If there is any complaint it would be that the shower is under pressured. I ate in the bar and ordered the butter chicken. Amazing and plentiful to the point I could not finish it all. Very reasonable costs too as my two courses cost £20. Breakfast is timed for sitting but once again I had the large breakfast which was plentiful to the point I left a sausage. I will happily stay here again and recommend it to my colleagues. The staff both in the evening and the morning are excellent host and are very attentive. Dont be fooled by the outside it is a lovely place and if you overnight in the hotel it's free parking. Jim

This was something of a last-minute booking for two days. Then we received an email to say the bar and restaurant had suddenly closed! but there was a cafe next door. It turned out not to be a problem for us. We're not 'pubby' people anyway, and it meant that the whole ambience was nice and quiet. Hopefully, the bar and restaurant will be up and running in another two or three weeks. Check first, if you think it's important to you. Although the premises are set just off the main road, very little traffic noise was evident. When we arrived and were looking around outside, the landlord, Abby, came out to see if we needed assistance. He gave us a very warm welcome, took us inside and introduced us to the receptionist, Christina, who also welcomed us. We were given the keys to our room, which was on the first floor. Don't forget (and I'm sure Abby and Christina wouldn't let you) to register your car registration number at reception, if you use the free (to residents) car park at the rear of the building. There is also free on-street parking in the lane at the front of the hotel, but that would soon get filled. Be aware, there is no lift, so anyone with mobility issues might find that a bit of a problem. My wife and I are both hovering around 80 and Abby unhestitatingly offered to take our luggage up to our room (and down again when we were leaving). The room was large and airy, very clean and comfortable. As it was not possible for Abby to provided any food, he made sure there was a microwave oven, fridge, crockery and cutlery, plus copious supplies of tea, coffee, milk and sugar available to supplement the tea/coffee making equipment in the room. The adjacent cafe provided breakfast, if required, plus light meals, such as lasagne, cottage pie etc. Perfectly adequate and very tasty. There are a number of eateries and takeaways in Guisborough, just a few minutes away by car. On the down side, a couple of times I thought a Chinook helicopter was circling low over the building. There was the familiar 'wap, wap, wap' sound and the room shook. It didn't bother us, as we live under a helicopter flight path and are used to the sounds, but some might find it unnerving at first. I don't actually think it was a Chinook, but something to do with the water pipes! It only lasted a few minutes, though. Overall, for the price we paid, it was a very good value experience and we weren't disappointed.

I booked this hotel, as it was an ideal B&B to base ourselves, for a golf trip over the weekend. The accommodation was as expected, clean and fit for purpose, although a little dated and the water pressure low, it was ideal for us. The food in the pub was first class and service was great. Top tip read the menu first, as when it says giant it means giant. Folks should be aware that the site consists of the hotel, pub and a restaurant, and unfortunately they do not communicate with each other, and this results in disappointed customers. Point of note for future travellers - THE FOX &HOUNDS IS NOT A B&B!!! If you want a breakfast this can be had at the restaurant next door at an additional cost - be advised, as I was under the impression that it was inclusive - it isn't! There were a number of people staying at the same time who were also surprised at this development. The restaurant does not open until 0900 so don't expect an early start to the day with a good breakfast. We asked for a breakfast at 0800 on the Saturday when we checked in on the Friday, and were informed this would be OK. The restaurant did not open on the Saturday for our 0800 breakfast, and when I enquired about it on the Sunday, they were totally unaware of our request. In the evening the pub is a lively place, but be advised if you have small impressionable children, the choice vernacular from the regulars maybe off putting for some. Not an issue for us as we are ex military, but be advised. That being said, we were made welcome and people spoke to us. Overall, for us it was OK and we had a bed and good food, but the lack of communication between the 3 separate businesses let tit down.

Lovely little hotel & pub, didn?t have breakfast at the cafe as 9am was too late for us. The main positive was the staff at the hotel, in particular Christina. She was very friendly & accomodating, a real asset to the business. Thanks again for a great stay

Hotel satisfactory.Brilliant breakfast next door, but all ler down by the female receptionist, who couldn't., raise a smile if she tried. This gives a very bad impression of the hotel.which needs to give a good impression to customers. She needs to buck up.

Just visited here with a coach group and we were very welcomed. Staff were well organised for us. We had the carvery meal which was lovely followed by a variety of sweets. The restaurant is very well positioned adjacent to the main A171 Moors Road so convenient for the North Yorkshire holiday resorts or Middlesbrough. A large car park is situated at the side. We would definitely return sooner rather than later.

If this hotel were on 4 in a bed my comments would be:- Toilet bowl dirty - hadn't seen bleach for a long time Toilet brush - didn't dare look as probably wouldn't have used the toilet if I had Bathroom dated and not very clean One ply toilet paper - one full roll and 2 rolls with hardly any paper left on them! Shower - didn't have one as when I tried to the water was scalding hot and I couldn't get it to cool down so had to wash in the sink insteaf Soap bottle almost empty Complimentary shower gel - half had been used prior to our visit Kettle - water left in it and limescale in kettle Room boiling hot Bedding - not great and didn't dare do the 4 in a bed thing as I probably would have had to leave Breakfast not included but available next to hotel (separate business) The pub itself (separate business) was friendly and reasonably priced Positive - slept well even though I was outside the covers with the window open Will not return and would not recommend

During a weekend away, staying in three places in three nights to explore Yorkshire and surrounding areas, this was our first home for the weekend. Unfortunately, not great. It's hard to find any more positives than the complimentary biscuits. Opened our room for to a "funky" smell, which led to me having to open the window straight away - even before eating the complimentary biscuits!! The shower had no pressure, I even joked by aiming it at my face from an arm's length away. The night sleep was not good. We could hear every step from the room next to us and at one point I woke up extremely confused with the sound of the hotel falling down... This was not the case, someone had just flushed the chain in the room next to us, which is ridiculously loud. We would have complained, but the staff seemed unapproachable.

What a great place to stay, we used the pub the hotel and the Chase cafe next door the rooms were more then adequate and it's often the little things that make the difference in a place like this, the room has comfy beds plenty of facilities, unlimited supply of coffee and biscuits, a modern bathroom super clean, a small fridge in your room plenty of towels etc was an effortless weekend stay! Thank you! I'm not sure if the pub has a separate page for a review but I'll also leave a review here, the staff are amazing and very helpful and friendly we arrived late on Friday minutes before they stopped serving food but they made sure we ate and were prepared to serve a bit later, the food was simply stunning! I'd recommend their burgers but of you can handle it the sausage and mash in a huge Yorkshire pud is amazing! We drank ate and were merry and it felt like we'd known the place and the staff years! A credit to travellers and the local community! Well done! If you do fancy breakfast, the Chase Cafe next door is also a must, really good hearty breakfast and everything tastes fresh, with, once again, super friendly staff hats off to you all, can honestly say we don't need an excuse to visit in the future we will be happy to travel just to visit!! Thank you!!
