Throughly disappointing on almost all fronts. I booked here for Mother's Day on my mother's recommendation due to the 3 previous visits here. The table was reserved for 1400, when we entered at 13:55 we were asked to sit at the bar area and told our table would be ready soon, 55 minutes later at almost 1500 we were finally seated. Starters arrived within a few minutes of being seated - nothing noteworthy to report, average Calamari at best. Starters cleared 45 minutes later, and the mains arrived at 16:00. The beef roast was good, the pork was awful, it was dry, chewy and the fat was not rendered in the slightest, when I mentioned this to the waitress (owners daughter) she took offence to the fact I was critiquing her mothers cooking, she pulled a face and didn't even acknowledge my concern before she walked off - great customer service! When I went to pay, she slid the receipt over to me, again no acknowledgement and apology for the poor food and even poorer attitude. The owner/manager did not want to come from the back and discuss the situation with myself and instructed her to remove 1 of the 2 pork meals from the bill. This could have all been avoided by simple common courtesy, something which is clearly not common here. My family and I will not return again, and I will advise all our friends not to return again. A wholly unacceptable and avoidable scenario that ruined a special day.*** update*** great response from the owner there, do you think if I was 'blackmailing' you would not have come out to confront me... Of course you would have done, so don't lie to quash a bad review, accept that your restruant is not as good as you thought it was, there was no shouting, not even a slightly raised voice what so ever, as it was a busy restaurant I wanted to keep it low key, I didn't want to make a scene hence the reason I came to the bar. Get a grip of yourself and your arrogant daughter. You should have put your big boy pants on and came out to talk to us, even a simple apologies goes along way.Food & drinks: Poor quality, over priced, rude family staff member.

Held my daughter and son in laws wedding reception here, had a wonderful day, staff were very friendly and helpful. The only thing that let it down was the buffet wedding breakfast. The venue is lovely and with a bit more choice of buffet would have been perfect.

Great afternoon tea, traditional and vegetarian options. Very tasty and nicely presented, unlimited tea. We sat next to the gorgeous open fire, very hospitable owners, nothing was too much trouble.

Christmas Dinner/work party .excellent service from the young lads that brought out the meals and clearing the tables at each course, can not fault them one bit . Starter was ok did need more of the crackers if your are going to put that amount of pate on the plate .main meal was a little disappointing as not real turkey and the 3 roast potatoes that was hard and you could tell that they was pre cooked and not fresh .was asked if we wanted a Yorkshire pudding which we said yes these came out cold I mean cold that we was asked if we would like them heated up. Main course was disappointing and not hot at all .desert was ok I guess . For £38 the main meal let it down massively. But we'll done to the lads that was on service .

The fact this was years ago and I still have a good recollection of my visit to the Thomas Paine Hotel in Thetford says something! There was an event hosted by the job centre and they invited different businesses to come over and give unemployed people a chance to speak to them and set up interviews. I came inside the building and thought this was beautifully designed, the hotel staff were very accommodating and I loved the hall, I have seen reviews of an afternoon tea and that sounds like something I would love to have! It's got good public transportation and there's a train station a few minutes walk away. It's a good hotel and if you're ever visiting Thetford, this is the place to be!

Having not been to the Thomas Paine for a few months due to hubby being in hospital, we decided to go today for Sunday lunch. We took my Hearing Dog ( assistance dog for deaf people) We was made so welcome & so was my Hearing Dog. Food was so good as usual. We definitely have missed this place & cannot wait to return. We also had a look around the Thomas Paine museum they have in the hotel definitely worth a wonder round. Very informative. As their motto states come as guests leave as friends t Such a wonderful place to eat & lovely owners & staff.

A gem in the heart of Thetford. We stumbled upon this hotel restaurant by chance, which turned out to be the best step we made of the evening. A warm welcome from Gez and his charming family from the moment we met, the experience continued with top notch service and food to match. Serving beautifully presented eclectic dishes, cooked with flavour and skill. This place is a blend of history, culture and charisma wrapped into one. Don't miss it if you are in Thetford or the surrounding area. Highly recommend.

We recently spent one night at the hotel while on an independent bicycle trip around Norfolk. I was looking for a place to stay in Thetford and the hotel website looked great, so we booked a room, not really knowing what to expect. The building has been nicely refurbished and we had a very large corner room (I think the largest room on property)with high ceilings, lots of light, new furnishings, and modern bathroom. Fans were provided in the room (it wasn't hot, but air circulation is always nice). There is a nice lounge where we had a late afternoon drink and had a wonderful time meeting the family that owns/runs the hotel. They are just delightful and truly understand hospitality. Our only regret is that they were not serving dinner that night, so we could not enjoy the Chef/Owner's cuisine. Lovely people who could not have been more accommodating to us or our bicycles!

Getting to experience this was an absolute dream. Every encounter and moment was memorable and brought us so much joy. It truly allowed me to fully relax & reflect on the things that mattered most. Thank you Thomas Paine.

Fantastic service and wonderful rooms. The restaurant is fantastic with all food being made fresh right in the kitchen. The staff are super friendly. Would highly recommend staying here.

After returning to the area after 16 years, we chose this hotel for the personal touch over other chain options. The hotel's staff was amazing and accomodating. They provided great service and every meal was delicious. The Thomas Paine Museum was of special interest and full of information for this history buff. We cant wait to visit again.

Definitely not luxury. Broken and rotten windows, mould, dirty and stains on walls, bedding and towels. Noisy room, due to single glazed windows and heavy traffic outside and noise from kitchen. Cups in room for tea and coffee were marked. Paint peeling off the walls. Curtains were falling apart.
