Excellent customer service offered by Jim at Juels. He was very honest, and having gained several quotes from the area, Jim offered me the most. Would recommend.

I deal in precious metals. A few years ago when I was still new to it I picked up a gold and amethyst brooch one morning for not very much money at a car boot sale. It was not hallmarked. I took it to Jim at Juels, believing him to be honest as it?s a high end shop. I had sold to him on a number of occasions prior to this and had had no complaints, and had found him to be a pleasant and knowledgeable character. He tested it with acid, told me it was 9 carat gold and no use for anything other than scrap, said he might pop the stone out - a large faceted amethyst - to use in something else. He paid me £30 for it. A couple of weeks later I went by and saw the same brooch in the window, marked as being ?Edwardian 15 carat gold? and priced at £415. The next time I was in the shop scrapping some silver I asked if I might get a little drink on top seeing as the brooch had clearly turned out to be a better piece than it first appeared. Jim (James Hawkins) got aggressive and asked me to leave. I haven?t been back since.Juels haven?t been in Norwich for very long. If you?re looking to buy or sell your valuables then I would recommend either Zelley?s or Windsor Bishop; if Juels will rip off someone like me, who has a basic understanding of precious metals / stones and their values, then I dread to imagine what they?d do with someone who may be a little naive around this stuff and who approaches in good faith with items they?ve perhaps inherited or bought long ago before the gold price skyrocketed. There was a time when gold was far cheaper than it is today. Today, many people are seeking the stuff and it has evolved into a hugely competitive industry.Ventures such as Juels give off a veneer of respectability and honesty, and they are a self described ?Jewellers of Distinction? but when all is said and done they?re no better or less ruthless than a car boot trader out to make a fast buck. There are still a few honest gold dealers around, Juels is NOT one of them.Update!?Jim? has deigned to reply to my review, and has demonstrated a similar degree of dishonesty to that which he exhibited the last time I dealt with him.For the record it speaks volumes that he claims to remember so many aspects of this episode in such prefect detail yet didn?t even get my name right; assuming that my Christian name is my Surname (it happens with an unusual name like mine). In short, the guy can?t even recall my name correctly but somehow remembers everything else that happened with me.I decided to post this review after ?all these years? following an incident I witnessed a few weeks ago when Jim behaved aggressively and bullied a busker who is a friend of mine into not setting up near Juels. I was reminded that day what an unpleasant character Jim is, got to thinking about the wrong that he did me and so decided to share my experience. The episode concerning the brooch is as I described it. At no point was I shown any paperwork or offered any sort of explanation. I didn?t even ask for the whole value of the brooch at the time, just ?a drink? on top the deal I was doing on the day in question (when Jim turned hostile and asked me to leave the shop once he realised I?d rumbled him).As far as I?m concerned I?m owed £355; this would mean that Juels will have doubled the £30 they paid me for the brooch, instead of the approximate 1000% mark up that they stole.I?m not directing my comments at Jim, but at anyone who is contemplating using this service. Jim has lied in his response, so I?m not going to waste my time discussing it further with him.If you are reading this and you?re considering buying or selling to Juels, then please hear what I?m saying and take my word for it; you will NOT get a fair deal from these self described premier dealers for the region - who have been in business for a whole 11 years!I?ve spoken to other people who have also had bad experiences with this character. They will be posting reviews of their own in due course.

I was incredibly disappointed with everything about trying to purchase from here. I called up to enquire as to the cost of full and half sovereigns and they gave me a price for each. I clarified the price and asked them to hold them for me for an hour until I can get to them and make the deal. When I got there and explained about who I was from the phone call, the two men showed me the coins and told me the price. Initially the price was £2,914 for what I had enquired about. He stated that the price now was £4,000!!! I explained that when I called an hour ago I was told it was x price. He said the price had gone up since then, I asked him how it could go up that much in one hour. He said it was from yesterdays price as they hadn?t updated their pricing. I couldn?t believe I made a wasted journey even when I clarified the price over the phone. He did agree I could have them for £3,800 if I wanted them. I definitely will not be spending money in there as they change their prices when it suits. Even if gold (which it did) were to rise 5% overnight, it doesn?t equate to that much of an increase from the initial quote. He said that one specific coin was now more due to it being a special one, so when I asked how much he would like to buy a special coin off me for, he quoted me below spot price because being a special coin means nothing to him! Only when it suits!
