In 2022 my brother passed away, my brother lived with and cared for my elderly mother who was then frail but mobile. A short time after my brother passed my mother received a letter addressed to my brother Terry from the nationwide bank, it started that Terry had taken a bank loan and was behind with the payments, I rang them to explain what had happened and the nationwide employee instructed me to bring a copy of Terry's death certificate to the St helens Town centre branch to show proof of his death, I arrived at the St helens branch of nationwide the next day and handed the death certificate to a female employee, she asked for proof of my identity so I gave her my driving licence, she then left the room and was gone for some time, I wanted to know what was happening so I got up to leave the room but found that the door was locked and I was unable to leave the room, a little while later the employee returned and I protested about being locked in the room but she completely ignored my complaint and then she asked me to sign a form, I asked what the form was for and she vaguely said it was just to have a contact person in regards to Terry's loan, I refused to sign due to lack of clarity from the employee and she stated that she would not expect Terry's death despite having a complete and legal death certificate in her hand, I got my driving license and Terry's death certificate back and then I left, a few days later my mother had a fall that resulted in her being permanently in bed and unable to walk and the doctors said she was end of life. Nationwide then sent countless letters in Terry's name demanding the loan be paid, still grieving heavily for the loss of my brother and my having to deal with my mother's health issues I also had to deal with nasty letters from nationwide that finally resulted in a debt collection agency threatening to take action, myself and my mother were not garentures for the loan and it was between Terry and nationwide, the debt collection agency went away and I thought that would be an end to it, however months later and the other day another letter arrived addressed to Terry and it was from nationwide bank, I rang them to explain and the lady employee claimed that nationwide had no records of Terry passing away, I also explained that mum is now in the end stages of her life and does not need any threats or aggravation, the employee was very rude and unsympathetic to my families situation and the employee informed me that Terry would continue to receive letters from nationwide, it was all very intimidating and given the fact myself and my mum had nothing to do with Terry's loan it's also causing stress to myself and my 87 year old mother who is in her final days. This nationwide bank is disgusting and inhuman.

The building society I go to are excellent, the staff are very friendly and professional with always a smile and knowing that they care, and the manager goes above and beyond he's duties as he and the staff are the reason I am extremely happy with the bank plus I always recommend to a friend or anyone else who is looking for a professional and friendly way to know your looked after both personally and financially
