Outdoor, rooftop eating area, pub always has a great atmosphere and though the app might be slow sometimes (due to popularity, not the staff) you can always order at the bar and the staff are great. Plus it's 10 seconds from James St station so great for getting that last train back to the WirralVegetarian options: Veggie options available

Typical wetherspoons.Usually a better real ale selection than the neighbouring spoons. Never had a problem with the food. Staff seem courteous.And a bonus point for toilets downstairs and not 2 mikes away. Close to the underground station and waterfront.

There doesn't seem to be much choice when it comes to reasonably priced eateries, and so everyone seems to end up stuck at spoons.The noise was unbearable, but after failing so long to find somewhere to eat that satisfied everyone, we stuck it out.Service was mostly friendly apart from one miserable person, but I imagine it is soul destroying working there, so I can't blame her.Food wasn't fantastic, although my niece did at least get a decent fish and chips, the other meals were below par. Definitely somewhere else added to the avoid list.

I go into wetherspoons quite a lot I was finding consistent no matter which wetherspoon's I go in on this occasion I thought I would try their fully loaded chips which consists of chips cheese bacon and sour cream unfortunately the cheese known as analogue cheese was on the chips this is a substitute for real cheese it has no flavour or taste so disappointed come on wetherspoons you're better than this

For us as visitors to the city this place captured us, such a great feel to the place..very busy on both occasions.....the staff were excellent, efficient, purposeful. The food on both visits was lovely, I watched the prep of the food and it was so clinically prepared, not one finger touched the food...brilliantly prepared..(I'm a bit of a hygiene freak)..Liverpudlian folk are lovely, they are so friendly, I felt as part of one of the locals...Yes definitely will return to the Captain, as the management here hit the brief...on all of my requirements of a public house...10/10..
