Whichever manager in 2025 approved putting MORE self service tills and reducing manned tills is an idiot.
Customers hate them. Staff hate them. Longer queues. The Sainsbury's till software is rubbish and glitchy.
Go to Aldi next door if you can help it.

Good selection of fresh and veggie food, staff not so great. Self service only as staff always seem to close tills just I get there, and when I made a mistake on the self service till and pressed the help button no staff came, they were all hanging around by the kiosk, two different members of staff saw me and ignored me, orange light flashing over the till and all. In the end I gave up waiting and left the shop. As I walked past the window on the way to Aldi I saw both members of staff who ignored me at the self checkout where I was, they must have gone there as soon as I left, shame they didn?t bother when they saw I needed help or when they watched me leaving. People that don?t want to deal with the public shouldn?t be in a customer facing role.

Sainsbury's Upton
Using the handheld devices that apparently they'd had trouble with all day..Took an age to shop with a 10 months old baby...Decided enough was enough and headed to check out...Only one screen was on but was told by staff they weren't working and I would have to use a till and have my goods rescanned and pack them again..No offer of help from the 2 staff on duty there..Headed for the tills, 2 members of staff on the tills said they'd had trouble all with the scan and go all day...I asked why something hadn't been done about it and they said they didn't know..
I headed back to the scan and go area where staff there said they'd had trouble with them all day. I asked to speak to a manager who was standing by the handheld devices.. I asked her why customers were still being allowed to use the handheld devices when they have been having problems with them all day...
Her response was that they hadn't and that she had sent staff around the shop to stop customers from using them and tell them to use the till. She said, but obviously, we missed you...
She said, "Sorry... I said it's not good enough. This could have been avoided...
