We had a two night stay at the William Cecil Hotel, which was booked as a special deal, through Waitrose? We enjoyed our stay, staff very friendly, Sergio hotel Manager very good, and always on hand! On departure came the crunch? Handed key to reception? And was told there is service charge for certain items? Which was not or never mentioned when booking, or whilst there? It marred our stay, as we did tip front of house staff? We would think twice before re-booking a second visit? Carol

The hotel could be so much more. The interior lacks imagination and seems disjointed. Our room faced the main road , and there was heavy traffic. Little to no attention seemed to be paid to detail. The room needed a makeover, I felt it had not been overhauled in 30 years. It's one of the poorest showers I've come across. I guess I'm used to the George, but we thought we would give this a try. I would not return or recommend it to others.
I gave it one star as I feel they are advocating DEI, as two of the front of hotel women had moustaches. One kept saying annoyingly," Enjoy your holiday".

We had a meal at Milleys. We had a quiet and relaxed lunch ,the staff were excellent and helpful
.Quite an interesting menu ,with a good variety of options.
Nearby activities: Burleigh Park is adjacent to the hotel ,with plenty of pathways to roam around.

Dog friendly with a beautiful room. Too restrictive with dog for areas to eat and drink.
Rooms: Lovely rooms.
Nearby activities: Very central for all interests.
Walkability: Handy for town.
Food and drinks: Bit pricey.

We were very disappointed in our stay at the hotel. There were a number of problems, but the most significant was the disco happening in the room below us which was so loud we couldn?t even hear the television and this went on till 11.50pm. No one pre-warned us. I would normally speak directly with the staff, but whilst checking out I felt dismissed and so could not mention the problems faced. We will not go back.

Return visit. Staff most helpful. Pleasant room overlooking street so despite double glazing still some traffic sounds. Welcoming cookies and tea, coffee machine.. Large bed. But shower almost at ceiling height in high sided old bath, so despite a handle impractical for this 5'2" lady.
Rooms: See above
Food and drinks: Good choice at dinner and breakfast. All dishes well prepared and tasty .

We had a fantastic wedding here. The setting is stunning on the edge of Burghley park and not far from the town centre. Hotel has lots of character. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Everything was well organised. The food was also of really good quality with great options. Highly recommended.

Stopped for a light lunch and the food was lovely. I had a cheddar cheese salad with a hazelnut dressing and my guest had flame grilled mackerel. Both were equally good, fresh and tasty. I did feel that portion sizes could have been a little larger especially the cheddar salad.
The property looked lovely but inside it looked a little tired and in need of a little tlc. The staff were friendly and service was with a smile which is always a big plus.
All in all a good place to stop and I would return to try more of their food choices.

Stayed in the garden room suite. Amazing room but there were things I was not happy about. Cobwebs hanging down from the ceiling above the patio doors, blood stain on the pillow protector( showing through the pillow slip) and very stained lampshades on the wonderful bedside lamps. We also had another guest trying to get into our room from the private garden, she was lost. The breakfast was lovely, location good but unlikely to stay again
