This place fancies itself a Michelin-starred gastro pub, but it?s pure theatre with no substance. The covered terrace lures you in with The Ivy vibes, yet step inside and you?re crammed into a space that feels more like a village boozer than fine dining.
The roast was a let-down. The meat was 95% fat and gristle, accompanied by two token potatoes and a solitary Yorkshire pudding that tasted like it had been abandoned under a heat lamp for days. The vegetables looked the part but turned out to be overcooked, watery mush. Dessert sealed the deal ? £7.50 for the smallest slice of cake you?ll ever see. If it?s homemade, then they?ve perfected the art of making it taste exactly like the frozen lemon tart served at mass-catered events.
Service didn?t help matters. A team of disinterested college-age staff shuffled plates around without a shred of professionalism, shattering whatever ?fine dining? illusion they were aiming for.
In short, it?s all style, no substance. If they want to be taken seriously, they need to stop pretending and start delivering food and service worthy of the prices they charge.

Sunday lunch 3rd August 2025. Gravel car park with no obvious disabled spaces. It was impossible to use my mum's rollator on this surface. We ordered two roasts. The Yorkshire pudding on each was badly burnt and this appeared to also be the case on all neighbouring tables. Why would you serve these? Simply leave them off the plate, apologise and knock something moderate off the bill, surely? And £13 each for two glasses of poor quality Chardonnay! Really! £26 for the equivalent of half a £5 bottle. A disgusting rip-off. So £86 for two mains, two desserts, two wines and two coffees! We won't be going back. Not nearly good enough for these prices.

Stopped off at the 6 Bells briefly last week to meet some friends who had a meal there. I joined them for a cheeseboard for dessert. Everyone was complimentary of the food they had consumed. Nice atmosphere inside with a beautiful area out the front for summer evenings. Service was efficient & energetic, provided by a youthful team. Would love to return in the future to try the rotisserie chicken.

Went for lunch for my wife's birthday and it was lovely. Mains of roast cod and terrine of lamb plus half a litre carafe of wine came to £76. Very, very good food and excellent service. Homemade bread and butter with a small pigeon sausage roll as an amuse bouche was a nice touch before the main course. Highly recommended.

We came on Sunday for a roast and had the most delightful wood oven roasted lamb. I was told it would come pink, it did not, however the wood flavours and tender cut made it just as delectable as if it had. The home made Yorkshire pudding was lovely. The root veg was well seasoned and nicely roasted as well.
We didn?t find the service of the waitress very friendly, she seemed to want to rush us along through our drink order, pointing irritated at the menu when we asked what tonics they had. Not what I?d expect at a Michelin star restaurant which also takes service into account. The lady taking our order and the manager were lovely, however, and saved the service aspect of the experience for us.

Upon arrival at the pub we were not greeted at the door, we stood waiting for a while and decided we may need to go to the bar to let them know we had arrived for our booking. We were eventually approached by a staff member and were took to our seat on the terrace. The terrace was inviting and beautifully decorated but it was a chilly evening and the waitress put the overhead patio heater on and offered a blanket, which was nice. It was still very cold though. The menu differed to what was on the website but we chose our food and ordered after waiting for a while. We ordered the crab and ham hock and chicken Terrine for starters; nothing special, the crab was watery and the ham hock was large with little bread to accompany it. For main meals we ordered the duck and pizza. Pizza was burnt on one side and duck was cooked well but no flavours and Luke warm on serving. The food was bland and unflavorsome. Throughout our dinner we were tended to by 6 different members of staff, all of which rushed to our table and rushed away. On one occasion a waitress asked how our meal was as she hurried away, not waiting for us to answer. All in all, the service was poor and unwelcoming. The location was good, atmosphere was pleasant but we left feeling like it was a strange experience, particularly for a Michelin restaurant. In their defence we did not pay usual Michelin prices. We cannot understand how it has achieved this award as we have been fortunate enough to visit a handful of Michelin star restaurants prior to this. All we can think is that the Michelin chef was not working when we went in.

We didnt book a room.
In May 2025 we visited the six bells.
4 ordered pizzas. One under cooked. 3 black burnt, only 50%topping, 50% of the dough not covered in anything, flavourless lump of dry dough. We were all not satisfied. One ordered fish and chips and removed all the fish batter as the taste wasnt good and left some of their chips.. Chips were over cooked and greasy. Another person ordered chips and said the same.
Not able to park cars so had to park further down the road in private residents parking as no spaces at the six bells or a disabled space for me.
What I can say is the setting was lovely on a sunny evening, everywhere was clean and the staff were polite.
The food is awful and I'm a food lover and eat just about anything. I'm usually always the person at the end of the meal with a clean plate. We all left 30% of our pizzas due to the above problems.
I said to the waitress when she came to clear the plates, could we have a box to take home all the burnt pizza please? and she didn't flinch an eye. She replied with ' You would be surprised what people take home. I said do they usually take home burnt pizza and she said yes. I was only joking about taking the pizza home. Not at anytime had she thought to offer us a reduced bill or a free dessert due to burnt food. It appeared this is the norm!
I would not go there again and eat. Nice place for a drink on a sunny day.
This is the first review I've made in 2025 of food.
