From the outside it looks like a top notch village pub where you would expect a cosy atmosphere and a roaring open fire and hearty grubInside isn?t like that sadly as you find a very cold and basic decor that feels a bit like sitting in the staff room at the local co-opThe people running the pub were friendly enough but seemed distracted to the point of losing most of the warm welcome and customer service you?d expect to see.So I sat and ordered a steak and ale pie which most pubs can do wellWhat I got was a dish of inedibly tough stewing steak with a ridiculous puff pastry top that just crumbled to dust when cutting it. Honestly was such a disappointment that such a basic dish can be messed up as badlyThe couple on the table next to me were discussing the lack of attention and atmosphere in the pub and I couldn?t disagreeIt?s a curious place. If they can improve it and have it as nice on the inside as the outside promises then daytime midweek trade would be much betterOh and there?s no lock on the toilet cubicle door either so you have to sit and physically hold the door shutAnd I wasn?t offered any condiments or sauces with my meal at allAttention to detail (and their customers) from staff here could make all the differenceAnd a huge uplift in standard of food and service needed to get repeat custom during the daytimes

Nestled in the heart of Alford, this establishment proved to be a haven for sports enthusiasts seeking both camaraderie and quality libations. Upon entering, we were immediately enveloped in a warm and inviting atmosphere, setting the stage for an enjoyable evening ahead. While our visit was brief, it was abundantly clear that this venue takes pride in its commitment to hospitality. The staff greeted us with genuine smiles and a genuine eagerness to ensure our experience was nothing short of exceptional. One of the highlights of our time here was undoubtedly the impressive selection of beers and ciders. With a diverse array of options to choose from, even the most discerning palate would find something to savor. From crisp lagers to bold IPAs and refreshing ciders, the choices were as varied as they were enticing. Although we regrettably didn't have the opportunity to sample the food offerings, the tantalizing aromas wafting from the kitchen hinted at a culinary experience worth returning for. But the true star of the evening was the electrifying atmosphere fueled by the live rugby match between Ireland and Wales. As we cheered on our respective teams alongside fellow fans, it became evident that this venue isn't just a place to enjoy great drinks?it's a community united by a shared love for sports and good company. In conclusion, whether you're a die-hard rugby fan or simply looking for a welcoming spot to enjoy a cold brew with friends, this establishment delivers on all fronts. With its friendly ambiance, diverse drink selection, and lively sports viewing experience, it's a must-visit destination for anyone seeking an unforgettable night out.

After realizing we wouldn't find any food in Chapel St Leonards during this heavily raining day, we found this place to have a snack and a drink. Staff was friendly enough to get the kitchen running and we enjoyed a lovely fresh homemade soup and a good beer. Place is nice, has a pool table, a beer garden and a car park.

The people serving the food were absolutely lovely. We had a big Christmas Dinner here and felt really spoiled. Our waiter really looked after all our needs and even brought us mince pies at the end! Really lovely, the food was brilliant and the place was super nicely decorated and clean!!! Amazing experience!!!Parking: Parking just at the back, well signaled and well mappwd out, plenty of spaces as well and easy to acces the pub from it even for more elderly people with mobility issues

I just called in for a couple of beers to kill time. The landlord behind the bar was friendly. There were not many people in the bar but it was a quiet time of day. The pub was clean and so were the toilets. The customers that were there were all regulars and seemed very friendly. I intend to go back one evening and have a meal there. Friends have told me that the meals are good.

It was very cold because there was no kindling for the fire. The glass was filthy but exchanged. Service was really slow waited 35minutes for food. It wasn't busy. The beef in the pie needed seasoning and not sure how lovely looking brown chips can be hard and raw.. The food was at best warm but cold in places. Didn't finish our meal and left. Alford was lovely but wouldn't go back to The George next time we visit.
