Loved it. Avoid check in at 3pm. Everyone arrives together and only 1 receptionist.

Food a bit of rip off in prices and sizes I paid £18 for fish chips and peas, for a larger fish, as its saw a small portion, it was like a children's meal, the food was OK but know way value for money.

An excellent, if expensive, experience. The hotel was built in the 1930s in an exuberant art-deco style, used as a hospital during WWII, then (possibly in ths 1950s) fell into disusw and disrepair. In 2009 fhe place was renervated with sympathy for its art-deco heritage. The rooms are stylishly designed and quite unusual. It's a worthwhile experience.
Rooms: Unusual and stylish
Nearby activities: Lancaster is just around the corner and it's called The Gateway to The Lake District for a reason.
Food and drinks: Pretty good. Not as posh a menu as I remember from pre-Covid times but the quality is pretty rsasonable.
Noteworthy details: The famous carving of Odysseus welcomed from the sea by Nausicaa, the painted medallion overlooking the central circular staircase, the seahorse statues... see the midlandhotel.org website.

I've wanted to visit this place since it appeared in Poirot years ago. It's lovely. Except when you drive up it looks like it belongs in communist Russia. It's very strange that they haven't gotten around to painting it a crisp white. When you go in though it lives up to expectations. We went on mothering Sunday and there was a man singing lovely old songs. Lots of mums and their families soaking up the atmosphere. Grand stair case upon entry that has a beautiful circular windows on the roof at the top.

My daughter booked us for afternoon tea today Saturday 29/03/2025, we were disappointed not to have a table at window as booked, no lovely white table cloths as used to be& terrible music in place of the 20s jazz music, things are not the same at this beautiful art deco hotel, it?s ambience as gone, service very good, lovely afternoon tea, lacked heating & lady at bar reception not a good front of house person, needs someone with warmth & outgoing personality to make you feel welcome, I was told when working in shops & reception always be polite, never sit down & make the customer welcome after all they are paying your wages!! This didn?t apply today unfortunately, look to changing the situation before losing out on future custom

Came here for lunch. The food was excellent, but the speed of service was very poor. Thought we would have a coffee but gave up. Seem to be loud of people wandering around but not actually doing anything.

This review is more about the food.
My God, this has place has gone downhill. Is this a pub company's best food.? The Midland Fish Pie was like eating mashed up hot tinned salmon covered in salty mash. There were no other discernable fish and no sauce at all. Claggy and grim. Everything is overly salty and takes over an hour to arrive.
The staff are lovely but they're working with substandard chefs and have to keep apologising to customers.
It's always a shame when a pub company takes over a decent place. They're still trading on the previous reputation of The Midland. Which is sad.
