Shockingly overpriced! Strange setup with kids stocking the shelves

They seem to be increasing the prices and that too for the same items every few months! LUSU should seriously look into this. Maybe, the university should consider more options of other stores on the campus!!

After 2 and half years of convenience I am officially a Central superfan. From the wide opening hours to the beautiful employees, Central has it all.?????

I spent four wonderful years at Lancaster Univeristy, and still have happy memories of this shop. The long summer days could often be broken up by a visit to Central.

Can you restock the curry-flavored rice, the one in the freezer. I remember the price is nearly 1.5-2.0 pound. I haven't eaten for a month

Very convenient but expensive, dissapointed by the lack of frosty jacks stocked although they do have a decent half price section that has quenched my hunger on many occasions.

Always shopped here for items that I ran out of in between my big supermarket deliveries (I.e bread and milk).Whilst location is very convenient living in Grizedale, the price was too harsh on my wallet. The items I bought were roughly 1.5X the price of Asda. Looking at the prices of the other stuff on the shelf, it would be far too expensive for me to buy anything more here.

Extremely over-priced, but very convenient for students in Pendle / Grizedale. They have a large selection of food and drinks and will have all the essentials.

Predatory pricing but very convenient for south campus students.

There are two occasions on which this place has really gotten on my nut. Firstly, picture the scene. I was buying alcohol. My friend just so happened to be with me, and the cashier proceeded to ask for my friend's age identification - despite the alcohol not even being for him! In the end he had to go all the way home and get his ID just so I could buy a cheeky pack o' Strongbow that wasn't even for me either lol. Next up, picture this. It's the night of the last ever episode of Game of Thrones and man's in need of some urgent snackage to optimise the viewing. So man realises the time is 11:58pm and so fully legs it to Central Stores (supposedly open 'til 12am) in search of said snackage. So man arrives, takes a cheeky glance at his watch, and sees the time is still 11:58pm - what can I say; man's fast - but to man's utter astonishment the sliding doors do not pertain to his wishes and remain solidly shut. Anyway long story short they closed early. Unbelievable. Other than that pretty good shop, cheap Diet Coke 10/10 would go again.

The only good thing about Central is how incredibly convenient it is. Unfortunately, the prices are ridiculous and very often, the shelf price doesn't match the price you end up paying, so you have to watch the price of each item as it's scanned. For instance, the price of Strongbow was charged at 30p more than the shelf price from late 2010 to April 2011. The staff are ignorant and can be downright rude and aggressive and their recently added cash machine is often out of cash or out of order for days. Granted, Central is convenient but there are no budget options and nearly everything is a luxury item (£4.60 for an oven pizza!), and you can't make very varied meals with what's stocked. If it wasn't available students would save a lot of money and buy proper food from the town markets and supermarkets ASDA and Sainsbury's, both of which deliver. An added insult is the slogan shown around the store, "More sense than money", making Central out to be a cost-effective option for food purchases. This is blatantly false, but new students who lack the experience of buying their own food may fall for the lie and find themselves spending £6 for one meal.

Central Stores or just CENTRAL; is the LUSU (student-union) owned shop on Lancaster University campus, at the south end. Because of this, item prices are around 10-30% more than you would expect. But these profits are put straight back into the union. That said, its a great shop with sandwiches, drinks, snacks, meats and dairy products. Its an off-license too, so it is great for grabbing a bit of alcohol for a party or nights-in. The convenience is the major plus of this shop! A lot of students wouldn't survive without it!!!
