I used to be a Matalan fan but over the years the service and expectation has dwindled. The store is big but there are hardly any staff. I struggled to find some school uniform as it was all muddled up and in the wrong places. There was no one around to ask around, no front staff. There was no one at the fitting rooms and even when i went to pay, the self checkouts are not labelled and not noticeable until the lone checkout staff member ushered me towards it.
It does not look like an exciting store to visit both outside and inside. Drab, behind the times and mundane, management could do with a change before it is forgotten and goes under. Really the store should be bustling with Aldi and Lidl on either side.
Sorry Matalan, but my view has changed

I went in for a gift for a friend. She loves gonks, they were on offer due to Autumn stock hitting the shop.

Great shop, nice range of products. The self service tills are not great. Arrived home, multiple items have alarm tags on!! Never sounded alarm. You need a shop assistant who knows where the tags are to remove them. Hidden up trousers leg, in sleeve of suit jacket!! It?s not up to the consumer to have to sort this out. Plus they always used to fold the clothes nicely for you. The service is being lost with all the lack of human interaction. Not being a shop lifter I didn?t even consider that there were tags on them. 30 minutes drive back now to remove them. Apart from this was fantastic

Fine. Nearly all tills are 'serve yourself'. So less staff in store.

Wasn't busy, managed to find a lovely jumper, and I got 20% off, which made the purchase even sweeter.

Went to Matalan, Colne, and purchased some items one of which had a 30% off. When I got to the till I was charged full price. When I mentioned to the assistant serving me he was beyond rude, shrugged his shoulders and said rules are rules. I phoned Matalan customer services, who informed me that I was entitled to the 30% off and they advised me to ask for a manager. Upon request they called for the manager who turned out to be another store assistant. After going online and seeing the exact same purchase on their website with 30% off , I was told that it only applied online to encourage shoppers to buy over the Internet . The store assistant then went to speak to the store manager who was looking at me. They then said they would not give me the 30% off so I asked for a full refund which they did. This shows they are happy to loose customers rather than save their jobs in store. I will never give Matalan my custom again. Be very careful and don't trust them.

Bought a couple of shirts and pairs of trousers. Two items were on the 70% reduction rail (I love a bargain). However, I was charged full price for them. When I questioned the price I was told that they did not have a reduced sticker on them so had to pay the full price, even though there was identical items on the reduced rail without stickers on. Lesson learnt.... If it seems too good to be true, it usually is! Be careful if you think your getting a bargain.
The two items shown are the ones that were full price and not the ones from the bargain rail.
