I visited papas yesterday..what a let down.
Maybe its because I spent 20 years working in an Italian kitchen and expect that level of food and service from this establishment.
Papas push on you authentication and prime cuts etc etc. all made to order.
we ordered 3 starters. I had an authentic minestrone soup with homemade bread.
well. since when do you have broccoli, cauliflower in this soup. no no no. no sign of any onion or celery for that matter. so basically it was like eating a tin of Asda own veg soup. The homemade bread was like and end peice of something left over and one bite it had gone. Stale.
my lad ordered some onion rings as he loves homemade onion rings. The fact he was like ew they taste dirty raised my eyebrow. So I tried one. It was simply down to dirty oil in the fryer that hasn't been cleaned for days.
Then we move on to the mains..Well I ordered the chicken with Italian mushroom with a red wine jus.
Waitress never asked what veg or potatoes I wanted if any. So as she walked of I asked what it comes with she was like oh you want some chips ??. Anyway the chicken was far from freshly pan fried to order. It was only just warm but colder in the centre when it arrived. I now this chicken was pre cooked and re heated in water. it was tough and dry. When you pay 15 quid for a basic chicken dish you expect the chicken to hit a hot pan and browned then mushrooms redwine to be added. Then the stock.
None of this took place. it was simply a reheated peice of chicken with a pre made sauce poored over the top. That is ridiculous for an owner to allow this or a chef to agree to send it out. I ordered fresh veg. One small peice of brocoli and cauliflower floret with half a chopped up carrot. Honestly even the carrot slices with uneven and all over the place. Not seasoned.
My lads pizza main was undercooked base and over cooked top meaning either the pizza oven was faulty or incorrect temperature settings on base. Or simply they used a conventional oven to cook it in.
The Mrs ordered Spag carb.
Well the bacon had more fat than meat. Chef had not trimmed bacon at all and looks like he sliced it 5 rashes at a time as all stuck together in her dish. When you pay 13 quid for a pasta dish you expect quality. Again better carb served in the Asda cafe for 4.99.
The standard of food is so low I was embarrassed by it and at no point did any staff come over and ask how our food was. Probably cos they now what they answer will be.
spend more time getting your food right instead of cramming kids in your your premises and letting them run wild while your trying to enjoy your meal.
I will never return to this place again. One of the worse meals I have had in a long time..Considering 50 quid a head you can go a jump for it

Works Christmas do, been here a few times. The gluten-free choices are good. The place itself has a good atmosphere and clean. The staff lovely, couldn't ask for more. Thank you and see you again in 22 ??
Still go here it's now 2024. Food is still as good, staff still as helpful and friendly.
Dietary restrictions: Plenty of gluten free options available. Just ask the staff.

Great Italian food

Reading the reviews on here proves the English will literally eat anything served to them and think it's tasty. No authentic Italian would eat this food. I ordered Rustic Pizza, arrived uber fast [therefore not cooked fresh] & tasted like cardboard. Sorry guys but just being honest.

As usual the food was fantastic. Started off with Garlic Mushrooms followed by Calzone pizza and topped off with Banoffee pie. The Calzone is still the best i've tasted anywhere and the Banoffee pie was just right to finish off a fantastic lunch. Shame no room left for the coffee.

We visited Papa Luigis for an early evening meal and we were really impressed. The menu is great with some lovely choices and a bonus that any pizza or pasta before 6pm on a Saturday is £9.95. All our meals were delicious and piping hot. Staff were friendly and attentive. Restaurant had lovely decor with comfy seating. We will definitely be returning again soon ??????????

Very good, one of my favourite restaurants
Vegetarian options: One, there are several vegetarian items on the menu. Two, you can remove toppings from otherwise non-vegetarian options.
Parking: There are roughly 40 spaces
Kid-friendliness: They are very friendly with kids.
