Lovely place shame it took over 20 minutes to queue to place the food order only to be told that most of the meals we wanted they didn't have causing the time to order take even longer. However the deserts were amazing.

We stumbled across Nells tavern by accident ,but we were delighted we did ,it's an excellent establishment set in the grounds of Guys thatched hamlet, the service was first class and the food was beautiful, thank you to everyone who worked here??

Owd Nell?s Canalside Tavern
This is a fantastic place to visit. The tavern has an authentic charm and, while it?s a little worn in places, that only adds to its character. The food is excellent ? we enjoyed one of the best meals we?ve had in a long time and left feeling truly satisfied. The staff are friendly, attentive, and helpful.
There?s also a pizza place in the same building, a restaurant on site, and other nearby buildings where you can enjoy a drink and explore. For something sweet, the ice cream is delicious ? amazing really ? though a few more flavours would make it perfect.
When the weather?s nice, eating outside by the canal is a real treat. Families are well catered for with a large play area for children, plus there?s Crown Green bowling and cricket for those who fancy something more active. You can even stay overnight at Guy?s Lodge. Parking is plentiful, though it does get busy at peak times.

Wandered over from the Premier Inn across the road. The gentleman at the reception recommended here rather than the restaurant affiliated with the Premier Inn.
I?m so glad he did.
Had a wonderful meal. Food was fresh, tasty and huge portions. Staff were really helpful, friendly and the place has a great atmosphere.
I would definitely recommend this hostelry. If it wasn?t for the fact I live 4 hours away I would be here often!

This is a very nice place, especially its location by the canal.
The architecture is beautiful and atmospheric. It?s always busy here, even at 12 PM on a weekday.
If you?re looking for a quiet spot to enjoy the atmosphere, I wouldn?t say this is it ? it?s quite noisy, with lots of movement around.
We ordered the traditional fish and chips with mushy peas. The portions were quite large and looked beautiful, but the chips were so hard it was almost impossible to bite into them.
It was actually the first time I?ve had such awful potatoes.
I even considered sending them back so the staff could taste them themselves.
I think for that price, they should at least be edible. :)

Over reduced sauce on steak and kidney pudding, spoilt the dish .
Why oh why can we not have a waiter come to table take the order, this sit down, look at menu, get up , order , sit down, get up for second drink sooo tedious

The food here isn't as good as it used to be. I had the steak and kidney pudding which was decent enough and came with nicely cooked chips, but all that accompanied it was a bit of frozen mixed veg. Service isn't brilliant - there was a ten minute queue for the food order point which I've seen on previous visits. You'd think after all these years they'd have put a second till on the bar to speed things up. And if you're lucky to find a table, it won't have been cleaned. We grabbed the last table which was sticky and had a wasp trapped inside an upturned pint glass. The setting by the canal is nice, which is why people flock here on sunny days, but the venue is starting to look a little tired and uncared for. The 'thatched hamlet' is looking quite patchy in places, and a lot of the outdoor tables and chairs are in a bit of a mess. It's a shame as this used to be a nice place to go to but it feels like it's just coasting on nostalgia right now. Price-wise, it wasn't bank breaking, but possibly a bit high for what it was.
