Very disappointed with the food. I ordered a ceasear salad, which consisted of just lettuce and chicken, breaded croutons and a salad sauce. Very bland. I did ask the waitress, who informed me that's how it comes. £17
My wife had fish and chips, which looked good, but the batter was burnt and hard to cut into. She separated the fish from the burnt batter and ate her meal—£ 18. After paying for our meals, we decided to inform the manager of our experience. I'm not sure if he was a manager, as he didn't have a clue about how to handle our comments. He wasn't interested in our comments or experience and stated that they had sold plenty of fish and chips that day and no one had complained. Not the professional response we were expecting. He picked my wife's fork up and started to prod the hard batter left on the plate. He didn't have a clue. We have visited a few times previously before the new owners took over, so we decided to give it a try. We won't be returning.

EDIT - CLOSED AS OF 2 FEB 2026 - IN ADMINISTRATION Awesome in good weather, nice for visitors to the area but too stale and tired to be a regular venue for most locals. Hosts some good events such as ginfest and cider fest weekends.

Long time since I visited this place, but seems to have been run down somewhat. Needs a lot of attention to make the place like it used to be years ago vibrant.

Recent stay, we loved it. Food was delicious, room was spot on, loads of walks, ideal location for Garstang too. Even had a singer on in the bar area. We will be back

On the 30th Dec 2025 4 adults and 2 children stopped at old Nells for lunch. To state it was horrible is an understatement. The food was cold, undercooked and not pleasant. The bread on the sandwiches hard not crusty, the steak pudding undercooked, the gravy jelly and the chips not cooked and the food cold. Over 20 years of using old nells this will be our last as the overall standards have slipped. I was embarrassed to take visiting family there and wished I had gone somewhere else. Highly recommend not visiting !!!

Love this place. Been going for 30 years and it's just so relaxed and welcoming. Food prices while being a little high are worth it as the portions are huge. Fish and chips are massive.

Starter of Christmas menu was lovely
Sadly the main course was cold and
Sent it back came back just warm . Sadly spoilt the meal
we only ate half and left ..
think if you are going to do a set dinner all day it should be served in serving dishes . Meat on plate and jug of hot gravy .
Will still go back as been going 30 years and in general we like it .
I need to man up and actually complain next time we are unhappy instead of just telling the young waitress .
A lot of young people learning so. It their fault .
I won?t have a dinner again will stick to menu cooked to order .

Lovely place with thatched roofs on several building, didn't have a meal but they looked very appetizing, great bar staff.

Food and service was good . A bit pricey but all bars etc are putting prices up . We only had sandwiches due to it being lunchtime.

My favourite place to go to relax Hopefully get a bit of fresh air. Lovely to watch the ducks and other wildlife as you eat or drink or both lol. Nice to look at the canal boats too.
Their food is out of this world! Always cooked fresh from scratch! A rarity these days.
My fave is their Lancashire cheese and onion pie It's to die for! And their chunky home made well cooked chips! Yummy!
Big portions too!
My mate loves their fish and chips!
Don't get me started on their delicious large portion sized toffee Sundaes!
They're like a little piece of heaven!
They run fantastic family days out too all year round.
