Absolutely delicious food, they take the pints very seriously here too, bubbly and fresh. Ordered the lasagne, beautifully made. I saw the ribs come out and got major food envy- and the southern fried burger. My partner had the bear burger, the chips were crispy but fluffy. Chef brings out the food, beautiful outside area with sofas, this is the place to be.

Had a nice carvery there on a Sunday. Call ahead and book to avoid disappointment.

This was our first time visiting. We phoned in the morning to book a carvery for early evening. We were sat at our table straight away, and only waited for about 15 minutes (during which time they cooked our veggie options) before being allowed to go up to the carvery. The food was really good. Great potatoes and cauliflower cheese in particular! There were three vegetarian options. I chose the mushroom wellington and it was delicious. Our son doesn't eat much but they were able to do him some vegetarian nuggets to go with his carvery veg. The staff were attentive and friendly even though it was quite busy. We were in a smallish room which got a bit noisy, but it was only what you'd expect in a room full of people. The garden looked nice too, with some covered seating. I'd definitely recommend it.

Did not eat. Barman needs a little more training as our order was a pint of guiness, pint of lager and a pot of tea. I was left waiting for my tea.

Hands down the best carvery I've ever had.. Good choice of meat and beautifully presented sides, including lovely fresh vegetables. The friendly staff go out of their way to make it special. Don't get me started about the desserts... divine.

Food was mostly beautifully cooked and portions were large, although Gypsy Tart afficionados might question the authenticity of the tart served here. The big let-down was the service. Well over an hour wait for first course to arrive and only brought out when we inquired about the delay. We were curtly advised that there were 2 tables before us. We'll, no, there weren't, they arrived after us, but had we not inquired it was clear our wait would have been even longer. When desserts were eventually served, it was in dribs and drabs, so we couldn't all eat at the same time. Two desserts were not as ordered, causing even more delays. In the end, we were there for over 2 1/2 hours for two courses.
I am sure the excuse that will be offered is that there was a large party in the garden. My response would be, if you know you've got a big party coming, book more staff or don't take additional bookings.
Access for those with disabilities are not well catered for. When we arrived there was a large vehicle parked sideways across the disabled bay. According to staff the only toilets are down a steep flight of stairs, ie no accessible disabled toilets. In fact, this isn't true. There IS an accessible disabled toilet, as I found for myself when I went looking, but wouldn't you think this is a key fact that management should highlight to staff?
In a nutshell, a really good chef is being let down by poor management. Oh, and a poor gypsy tart recipe ?.
Would I go again? Yes, I'd give it a second chance to see if they've addressed their management issues, after all the food was good.

Always a good place to come for reliable decent food. It's not fancy and that's what's good. Homestyle honest cooking.
