I can?t believe B&Q is allowing its own customers to be penalised under signage that fails to meet even basic legal standards.
I received a £100 charge after shopping at B&Q Maidstone. I was a genuine customer, yet Total Parking Solutions issued a PCN because I supposedly exceeded a 1-hour stay ? despite the fact that the signage is illegible, non-compliant, and fails to meet the very rules they?re supposed to follow under the British Parking Association (BPA) Code of Practice.
If you?re in the same situation, don?t blindly pay. Here?s what you should say:
? No Contract Was Formed ? Signage Non-Compliant with BPA Code of Practice
You allege that the charge was issued because the vehicle exceeded a 1-hour maximum stay. However, no enforceable contract exists due to your failure to meet the BPA Code of Practice, which you are bound by as an Approved Operator.
Your signage fails to meet minimum standards in multiple respects:
? No clear operator identity at entrance (BPA 19.4)
? No mention of charges for breach on entrance signage (BPA 19.4 & Annex B)
? No instruction to consult further signage for full terms (BPA 19.4)
? The statement ?Terms and Conditions Apply? is not legible from a vehicle, violating Annex B (50mm x-height recommended)
? Internal signs are cluttered, use tiny font, and do not display key terms prominently (BPA 19.2 & 19.5)
This renders the signage non-compliant and legally ineffective for the purposes of contract formation.
? Objective Evidence ? DfT Signage Standards
A photograph taken at the entrance shows official road signs for ?5 mph? and ?Entry Only? ? both are fully legible from a vehicle.
Your signage, placed nearby, is unreadable by comparison.
Per Department for Transport standards, sign text must be 40?50 mm high to be legible at 10 metres. Yours is not. This comparison proves your signage does not meet even basic visibility requirements needed to create a lawful contract.

Maidstone B&Q has very limited stock. When I asked the staff they advised I should walk over to another store to see if they had the items I needed and when I got back there was a £60 fine for taking too long.

Had an issue in store and I dont think I've ever been helped so much, so effiencently and quickly by all the staff in store. Everyone from every department is a credit to the company, it's a shame more of retail isnt like this.
Thank you David and Team.

I recently had to order some items for a bathroom renovation and they were in stock at B&Q on their 1hr collect service. I had an issue with PayPal holding the funds so I put a 2nd order in, which then duplicated. Karen at the store was absolutely amazing. She explained the best way to fix the scenario, ensured the duplicate was refunded quickly and got my items to me well within the hour. She was so happy to help and it really made my day easier. Thanks Karen!!

Just seen the manager and friends tried to blackmail and intimidate the lovely ice cream lady in the car park. What a vile way to behave towards a women and child, and what a disgusting way to represent the company

Visited Maidstone B&Q to buy some compost. The bags were too heavy for me to lift, and as I was looking for some help an employee called Andrew approached me, he offered to carry the bag so I could pay for it and then loaded the bag in my car. He was friendly and really helpful, first class customer service. Thank you B&Q!

Bought some paint which came out just white. Paid £72.00. The manager for the day Dave. Was Rude, sarcastic and extremely unhelpful. Shocking customer service especially from a manager. Will not buy here again. Awful experience.
