Wow, love this place. We stumbled upon it while looking for some dinner in Kent and what a treat it was. Delicious freshly made food, attentive service and a really warm atmosphere. You won't do much better than here!

Great lunch here August Bank Holiday Sunday. We sat outside in the garden but inside was equally inviting. Friendly ambience . Drinks were ordered and brought out swiftly we had some lovely non-alcoholic cocktails as we were going for a walk after but the wine list was extensive and inviting. Varied and interesting menu and specials leaning towards French bistro - but in the end both opted for Sunday sirloin roast which was piping hot, lashings of gravy and delish cauliflower cheese hiding under the yorkshires (all included not an ?extra side?). Good puddings as well, could have eaten the whole menu. Spotless loos and plenty of parking, friendly and prompt attentive service, a new favourite spot, Thankyou very much for a fab meal.

Lovely meal but what about the dessert?
My husband and I visited the Great House to have a meal on our special anniversary. We live in the area, know the Great House quite well and value it. I chose an option from the Set Menu which was very enjoyable. As I didn?t fancy any of the the desserts on that menu I chose one from the Daily Menu ?the Dark chocolate, vanilla & black cherry cheesecake ? just up my street.
It arrived very swiftly. I didn?t like what I saw at all, but gave it the benefit of the doubt. A scoop of chocolate ice cream sat on top hiding an unappetising, dried up, rubbery beige and red mass. Still, I was looking forward to the chocolate cheese cake bit but further investigation showed that the bottom layer was basically chocolate dough topped by another chocolate coloured layer with a slightly softer texture. The top layer was extremely sweet and the texture unpleasant so I put it to one side. I tucked into the chocolate part but soon started regretting it, it was utterly tasteless and not smaoothat all. Nothing like a cheesecake at all! This was cheap food definitely not specially sourced locally or made on the premises. When questioned at the end if everything was ok I mentioned this experience to the waiter who enquired if that cake had, as I had assumed, been bought in. No surprise here ? it was bought in and sold at the rather inflated price of £8. We paid and left with a very unhappy feeling. As mentioned at the beginning we have had plenty of meals at the Great House over many years and have always been satisfied with the food and service. But why let yourself down by offering substandard desserts? This has definitely ruined part of our culinary experience and has made us reflect on the standards held by the Great House. Another lesson: do not allow yourself to be placed next to the pizza oven. I left the pub very red cheeked and uncomfortable.

We were a group of 4 adults and 4 children who came for lunch. The food was very good but the entire experience was made extra special by the service at the bar and table. We were initially placed at a table which we found uncomfortable due to the sun hitting our eyes but it was no problem for Anita and her colleague to rearrange the tables slightly to move us slightly further into the restaurant (even though we felt slightly embarrassed to ask). Thank you Anita!

The pizza and garlic bread are delicious, and so filling! Freshly cooked in the pizza oven. The bread served is amazing, generally.

We had a really lovely meal at this restaurant. Relaxing atmosphere, very attentive staff and vegan friendly menu. Lovely garden too.

As a vegetarian the menu choices were very limited & poor, therefore my 3 stars. It is 2025, vegetarianism is mainstream.
Service excellent & friendly. Atmosphere good.

Had dinner there earlier with my family. All of us were thrilled with the food, and the service was great - our server was friendly and attentive, and when our desserts arrived he realised that my sibling and I had been given dairy ice-cream despite ordering what should have been a vegan dish (probably needs updating on the menu or in the kitchen) and swiftly fixed it for us. For mains we had shared a Margherita with vegan mozzarella and extra toppings and it was absolutely delicious. Pricy but would recommend!

Such friendly accommodating staff when we asked if we could sit in the garden with our dog and have food, they were more than happy to have us. The food was absolutely spot on if and you?re looking for a steak then this is definitely the place to go.

The Great House has been a consistent favourite of ours for many years. The food is fantastic, the Harvey's in excellent condition, the wine list superb and priced sensibly. But the reason we return is the staff. With the same core staff and always a welcome. The Great House must be one of the greatest bar eateries in the area.
