My recent visit to The Fighting Cocks in Horton Kirby was an absolute delight. Despite making a late reservation, the staff were incredibly accommodating and provided brilliant service from start to finish. We were seated promptly, and our food arrived in a very reasonable amount of time.
The food itself was fantastic. It was exactly what you hope for in a classic pub meal: hearty, well-made, and clearly homemade. Every dish felt like it was prepared with care and quality ingredients. The prices were also very reasonable, offering great value for the quality and portion sizes. A special mention must go to the OAP fixed menu, which was an excellent value for money and a thoughtful option.
The location of the pub is lovely, with a charming atmosphere that adds to the dining experience. The only minor point for improvement would be the fans in the conservatory. On what was a warm day, it would have been great to have them working to make the space a bit more comfortable.
Overall, The Fighting Cocks is a superb pub and a place I would highly recommend.

Tried to book a table of 8. George was less than helpful and sounded like he didn?t want to be on the phone. He Said we were able to book two tables of 4 but not a table of 8?
No solutions given and he hung up the phone and then only picked up returning calls from a different number.
It?s a shame because this restaurant used to be quite good
I don?t think George is suited the hospitality business. With the social skills of a vet he would probably be better off staying outside with the cockerels.

It's not often that I find somewhere to give 1 star.
But the outdoor food was the worst ever. Cooked by a teenager who really didn't give 2 hoots about how bad the cooking was. Even when I pointed out that the chips were charcoal, he just shrugged his shoulders.
The burger was dry and tasteless. I would never eat here again.
In fact I would advise anyone to not eat here as it's poor beyond repair.
On the other hand, the beer tastes ok. So maybe just come for a drink, until they can employ a decent chef for outside.
I can't judge the restaurant as we say in the garden for a few drinks and food.
So maybe, the food inside might be better. I'll never find out though.

The lady that greeted us was the absolute rudest individual I have ever had the dishonour of speaking with in my life. With that attitude she should not even be tending to animals, let alone customers of an establishment like this one. The managers should be ashamed of themselves for having such a shortfall in their staff?s customer service training. No one from my network will ever be a patron there again.

Building works out front had me a bit worried, but once through to back was wonderful. Food awesome, good selection. Service fine and helpful.

I contacted The Fighting Cocks fairly last minute to accommodate a small wake for my Father?s funeral.
First of all I can?t thank you all enough.
You accommodated us with no problem. The service was outstanding and the buffet was so amazing for the price we paid that every one of our party commented.
You brought a much needed smile to our faces and a perfect ending to an otherwise sad day for which I will be forever grateful.

Went for a light meal after walking along the river. Staff were pleasant and welcoming. Sandwich options were a bit restricted ( 3 options ), thankfully we all found one we liked. Thought £12 was a bit pricey for a sandwich with fries ( usually pubs serve them in a small ramekin) . But when they brought the food out there was plenty there, a nice big sandwich, a bowl of fries and a decent side salad.
The time of day we were there plus the weather meant that it was quiet there , however I'm sure it gets a lot of custom normally.
Would recommend to others.
