It was good once I could finally access the carpark and park up. When I first arrived there were cones across the access road and I was told the carpark was full and to try again in 15 to 20 minutes. So I drove around for a bit a despite seeing multiple cars leaving, when I drove past, the road was still closed. After 45 minutes the road was finally reopened and on reaching the carpark there was about 20% of the spaces empty. So I parked up and was able to meet my parents who just made it into the carpark before it closed. From here on in things improved and the 3 of us had a good couple of hours walking round the well kept gardens and enjoyed the view from up the tower.

Had a thoroughly enjoyable visit here today. The staff are very welcoming. There's a good amount of parking, which if you're a NT member is free. The cafe is actually a very good size & well catered is rather unusual for alot of NT places.Definitely worth a visit.

Gardens were lovely and isn't a bad 2 hours out. A couple of circular walks around the castle. However a member of staff on entrance to the gardens wouldnt allow us to enter the gardens with a can of lemonade? ???? seemed a little over the top as if she was on some sort of power trip.?

My 2 year old was told he couldn?t take his dolls pram (about 30cm wide it was a tiny little thing) in to the gardens. There was a no pram rule but? this was a toy. Very unreasonable woman at the main entrance insisted he couldn?t take it in so we left it in the buggy park but he was distraught. So we decided to just take it anyway, and the other woman at the gates to the garden didn?t even blink, just let us all straight in.Inconsistent rules and inflexible behaviour around children which left mine in tears for no good reason. Shame as the garden was lovely and other than that the kids really enjoyed it.

Always enjoy visiting even when the weather is bad like today! One of the National Trust's best restaurants, scones and coffees delicious. Lovely walk around the lake, garden beautiful particularly in Spring and Summer. Highly recommended

A lovely muddy walk around the fields and lake, followed by a wonder in the gardens, a walk up the tower and a drink in the cafe. Enough to do for half a day out. It was just a normal general admission day. Not too busy although the cafe got busy as we were leaving. If you plan on doing the walk make sure you wear wellies or take a change of shoes.
