Mediocre and poor value for money. Basic room, freezing cold shower and noisy boiler (realized too late that must have been another guest using all the hot water...), staff seemed pretty unhappy to be there and not particularly confident in their roles (e.g. clear hesitation on whether to challenge us as we walked past the "please wait to be seated" sign on the way to our room) - perhaps more training or better pay needed. Had to decide at check in what time we would have breakfast as it was "very, very busy" - arrived earlier than the time we'd agreed, and it wasn't busy either morning.Rooms: Very disappointing "junior suite" i.e. most expensive room. Shower ran ice cold, almost no natural light (two tiny skylights in photo), no view despite being up two flights of narrow stairs with no lift and no offer of help (totally fine for us - youngish and fit - but no forewarning), no decor to speak of, no mini bar and very limited tea selection. Just not worth paying extra for, unless you need to accommodate a child's bed or cot.Walkability: Good location for most central sites, near to the cathedral etc.Food & drinks: Breakfast was average. Coffees came in massive bowl-like cups no matter what you ordered - my cappuccino was a very milky latte. The second day we asked for filter coffee, which was better. The mini pastries were better than expected. Cooked breakfast was fine (we only tried one item from limited menu). Other options were toast, sad looking fruit, and mini cereal boxes. We didn't try lunch/dinner/drinks.

We stayed to visit our son who is studying at university of Kent. Fantastic original style and very warm hosts. Amazing service at a very good price.

I nice stay for one night. Had a valentine's package with two welcome cocktails. Room was no 11, was large and comfortable and clean. Breakfast was good and staff very friendly.

I waited 15+minutes at the reception for check in because the staff was not there, which was disappointing and the bar staff saw me waiting but wasn?t really attentive/helpful either. Hospitality wasn?t their strongest point. Besides that, the double room was lovely, quaint and clean. Loved the hot tub in the room and the shower was good too.

Great place to socialise very nice bar, but another business in town that does not bother to reply to job applications or communications.

I'm sorry to say... Actually I'm notThe staff was sharp and rude, given we pre ordered so they knew our order with plenty of time there were still errors with no apologys, in fact we were questioned, even on our drink order. The pizzas definitely are not worth the money, it really doesn't take much to create a good pizza.Falstaff fell flat!!Poor performance across the board

I didn?t stay in the hotel but did experience the cocktail bar this evening. Absolutely sublime. Beautiful Brambles made to total perfection. Whiskey and Amaretto sours also made brilliantly. We will absolutely be back. Six cocktails for under £70 also screams great value to me. Really enjoyable.

Great hotel in the heart of Canterbury, room was very nice, although a little tired in places. The bar in the evening was a fab way to round off an evening and the breakfast was delicious.

Good location just outside West Gate. Nice, clean rooms and tasty breakfast cooked or continental. We stayed in the main building in a room overlooking the street so there was a little noise from the road not helped by a bay window that didn't close. A nice touch was the availability of free newspapers in the morning a rarity nowadays ? final word check credit card statement as I was overcharged by £20 now being refunded ?Walkability: On flat just outside main shopping centre

Really cosy hotel a stone's throw away from the town centre and close to many good restaurants and cafés. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The room was extremely comfortable with a range of free teas/coffees and biscuits. Everything felt very clean. The only down sides were having to pay £12 to park in the hotel carpark and the cost of breakfast (around £15, which is very acceptable if you're opting for the full English but not good value for money if you have the Continental option).Overall, it was a most pleasant experience. We would gladly go back.

Very comfortable rooms. Lovely food, too. A nice swish place in the city centre that's very handy for the train station and city centre.

Visited for afternoon tea which is £24.95pp, and it really wasn't value for money. Food was very disappointing! The equivalent of 2 slices of processed bread cut into triangles, 1 small wrap cut in half, 2 tiny prawn vol au vents, 4 scones (2 flavoured with tangerine(?) which really didn't go with raisins), 2 tiny jars of jam & 2 small clotted cream pots. Also 2 miniscule mince pies, 2 tiny trifles & 2 tiny Victoria sponges finished off the tea. The scones crumbled once cut in half so it was almost impossible to put cream & jam on them. The only good thing was we managed to get 3 pots of tea, but we had to wait until barman/waitress was serving another table & then catch them on their way back to ask for more cream & jam, milk & tea! Service was poor after initial greeting & we requested service charge be removed from the bill. I should have asked for another reduction from the bill as it was very poor value for money, I doubt if the ingredients totalled more than £10. We won't be returning.Food & drinks: Tiny portions, not value for money!
