We went for an evening meal and were quite disappointed. The food was OK as was the service but not great. It's really a pub doing posh nosh as but not very well. It very expensive for what it is. We will not go again.

Very cosy environment. Very comfy chairs in the snug area too!
We had room 3 and it was very nice, maybe a little smaller than expected but there is lot of seating for a room of that size.
I would have to be totally honest and say that the ensuite wasn't great. It is wet room due to the lack of space so if you go in after your partner has showered then you will DEFINITELY get wet feet.
The shower pump made the most strange noises whilst being run not dissimilar to a frog croaking or possibly a duck quacking!!!?

We arrived on the first night of the new chef and sadly my meal wasn't by any means what I was expecting, I ordered the Sirloin steak and asked for medium rare. It arrived with a huge rib bone placed on top which was not required for the plate. My steak was rare and extremely chewy and the fat had not been crisped it was almost raw and distasteful.
Luke was in charge and dealt with the matter promptly and professionally and sent it back to be cooked to the required request, again this did not happen. There is no room for complaint in the area of staff and their service as they were all very pleasant and professional.
Sadly the food did not meet expectations as this was the main reason that we chose The Dog.
I would say that overall we were disappointed due to previous reviews and had higher expectations.
We had the special 2 night offer of £400 for two and you do still have a supplement on some of the dishes, so look out for them when ordering from the a la carte menu.
We paid for our extras when we checked out were charged £49.13 service charge apparently the £400 we had paid prior to arriving did not include this so we're a little surprised !
I would guess that once the chef has settled in the reviews will be 5* again!

A truly delightful experience. Staff were all so pleasant and professional that it would be unfair to single any one out for special praise. Food and drink both to a very high standard. Room very well equipped and tastefully decorated. Great location for exploring the surrounding area. Overall a very enjoyable stay and a place I am very happy to recommend.

Very nice and well decorated pub/B&B. Make over must have been recent. Food and drinks were excellent, well presented. Service was first class and friendly.
If i had one gripe, it was the prices of drinks and food. I think the cost of the roast dinner was excessive for two slices of beef. They were comparable to London
No comments on the rooms as didn't stay.

Met some friends for lunch, didn't want a big lunch. Found they offer a while you wait option, so we mixed and matched which created the perfect solution.
Had the most delicious home made Scotch egg and chunky seasoned chip, wow all so scrummy. Wonderful friendly service too, thank you we had a wonderful time.

Went for Lunch
I thought the whole experience at the Dog was fantastic. The staff were attentive and friendly, I had the Wood Pigeon and the Duck which were beautifully cooked, presented and tasted divine. My friend had the Potted Crab and Terrine both of which i insisted tasting, and they were just as good as my choices. Your lovely facilities and the wonderful weather ensured we had a very special day which I will always be grateful for.

A really enjoyable evening from arrival until we left. Relaxed atmosphere, attentive staff without being intrusive.
The food was excellent.
Will definitely recommend and visit again.
I have scored the rooms althoughI didn't experience these but can only imagine these are of the same standard as the rest of the experience.

Definitely not pub grub!

Food and drinks: Went here for our anniversary meal. We had the tasting menu which was delicious and definitely a step up from your regular gastro pub grub. Best of all we took our German Shepard Dixon along. Great food with your furry friend - ideal for us.
