I cannot believe how lucky we were to come across this gem of a hotel. So quirky and the whole atmosphere added to the enjoyment of our visit to Canterbury. As stated in many other reviews all the staff were so naturally friendly and helpful breakfast was freshly cooked and very filling. The room and its facilities could not be faulted and for my husband a smoker there was a patio area which meant he didn't have to to out on to the public street. So all our needs were met. The proximity to the cathedral was fantastic, hearking the bells for evensong and seeing it from our window just sealed the deal.

A spontaneous last minute booking at this hidden gem.So cute, immaculately clean and tidy, welcoming and lovely.Provided with ear plugs which we never took advantage of, wished we had done! ?Would definitely stay again - thank you!

It's always a pleasure to return to enjoy the character, personal welcome and comfort of Cathedral Gate, with a magnificent view of the Cathedral from my bedroom window! You're in the heart of the history here, with everything within easy walking distance.Rooms: because of the age of the property there are some narrow stairs which some may find difficult

Thanks for our lovely three night stay. So welcoming and friendly. Clean rooms, lots of effort to make us feel at home. Recommended. So central. Oh and when you book, make sure that you read their email which explains all you need to know about driving to the hotel - access through the bollards etc?(I didn?t read it and should have! ?)

Stayed here for two nights...room was very clean and pretty. The room was big enough for two people,a small wardrobe with some hangers in,TV and hairdryer. Free coffee, tea, biscuits etc and bath products.the room we had didn't have a shower but others do.we had a view of the grounds and the cathedral from our room.we opted for the continental breakfast but you can pay£9.50 extra I believe for full English.there is bar here and a lovely lounge off to one side with great view over the butter Market outside the cathedral with all the hussle and bustle .from the moment we arrived until we left the staff were excellent. So friendly.there are stairs here and some of the floors a bit uneven..not probably for anyone with mobility issues.....but this is also what makes the place special.many thanks

The staff and the location of Cathedral Gate Hotel was fantastic! Purpose of my trip was a Hospital operation for my son in Canterbury which ended up with me requiring an extra nights stay at Cathedral Gate Hotel which I easily sorted with India over a phone call (to reserve the same room I had the night before) The Hotel was lovely clean and everything I needed was in the room which also had a great view of the cathedral.BIG thank you to Monica for just being so nice and caring! If I ever need to go back to Canterbury I would rebook here with No hesitation.

Rob is what makes this place so special. Who's Rob you ask? The greatest man alive. I heard rumors from the other guests that he once saved a child from the mouth of a shark with nothing but his bare hands. He's a man your grandchildren will read about in their history books. Get to know him while he's alive so you can tell your grandchildren you met him. Guaranteed street cred with the grandbabies.

Wonderful hotel in the heart of Canterbury. Beautiful views of the Cathedral, great location to walk around the rest of the city. Staff at the hotel were incredibly friendly and welcoming, looked after us the whole time and were really generous with their advice and local knowledge.Room itself was gorgeous, came with towels and body wash, great bathroom facilities. Would definitely recommend and worth the extra money for a beautiful stay.Rooms: Beautiful room with wooden four-poster bed, lovely bathroom and stunning views.Safety: Safe location with key to front door, hotel room doors lock from the inside.

Great, quirky, historical Hotel. Be aware lots of stairs and hallways to navigate to rooms, but well worth the cardiac exercise. Just a tad difficult to locate on the Burgate. Fabulous stay - lovely, friendly, very hospitable staff. Great continental breakfast. Terrific view from Breakfast Dining Room. Rob was especially kind in taking our ?heavy? bags to our room. He also had a great sense of humour! ? Would highly recommend staying here, for the full experience of staying in Canterbury. ????

Fantastic location; actually part of the Cathedral. Quirky 16th Century building without a level floor or straight wall :-). Great staff and great breakfast. Check out Evensong when the Tocsin Bell tolls

Great hotel . Staff were lovely and attentive and Monica stayed really late to check us in as we had been delayed by the storms. Comfy bed and very clean. Location right next to cathedral entrance. Would definitely return

Great location and a warm welcome. The bed was comfortable and the room spacious. The breakfast was good if a bit meagre. While we thought the layout quirky some might find it a bit challenging given the many steep stairs.

We thoroughly enjoyed our state at Cathedral Gate. The staff was wonderful, very friendly and extremely helpful. The person at the desk carried our luggage to the room and made some great restaurant recommendations. We were in the Augustan Room which faced the main street. We were there for two of the hottest days of the season, and the room did not have air conditioning. This was not a deal breaker for us given the charm and age of the hotel. There was a fan, and we were able to open the windows. The room included a kettle, small television, desk, and bureau. It could have used an extra towel rack in the bathroom, but there was plenty of hot water and good water pressure. This is an old building. It was built before the gates to the cathedral were installed. The floors slope and there is no elevator. We liked the uniqueness, but others might not. It did get noisy on Saturday night, but we used the provided earplugs. The hotel is in a great location to walk to the major tourist attractions and both train stations. The continental breakfast was included in the price of the room, and it was hosted in a very pretty sunroom at the front of the hotel. The croissants were amazing. There was fresh fruit salad, oatmeal, a variety of choices, and the fresh flowers on the table were a nice touch. Give it a try!
