We had difficulty locating our fussy dogs' preferred food, as everywhere was out of stock due to supply chain issues. We gave Pets at Home Ashford a call, and within minutes, they confirmed they had only a couple of small bags available and would happily hold on to them if we could collect them within a few hours.
We arrived within the agreed time frame for collection. They confirmed our name, went and got the food from the storage room, and even took it to our car.
Very helpful and friendly, and would definitely return if the need arises.
Perfect....

On 17th June I adopted a Syrian hamster from Pets at Home, a beautiful little soul I named Mabel. From the very start, I sensed something wasn?t quite right?she moved differently, her ears remained back, and she seemed shut down. She was like this in the shop, walking hunched with not fully open eyes. They wouldn?t surely have a sick animal out there, right? I told myself it might be fear or the stress and once settled she would pick up, but sadly, on 21st June, Mabel died. She had barely begun to realise she was safe, let alone experience what it meant to live a full, enriched life.
I learned she had likely been treated for mites back in April prior to being placed in the adoption section?where animals often end up after failing to sell or showing signs of illness. Whether it was an undiagnosed congenital condition or a result of poor early care, I?ll never know. But what I do know is this: no animal should be in a condition where death feels inevitable, and no adopter should be left grieving because retail protocol allowed a suffering animal to slip through the cracks.
Pets at Home continues to use breeding mills and large-scale suppliers where health, welfare, and early socialisation with humans are often lacking. The adoption sections, while seeming like a kindness, frequently serve as a way to move on animals with underlying health issues or behavioural trauma caused by poor breeding and housing conditions.
This isn?t just about Mabel?though she will always matter deeply to me. It?s about an entire system that fails animals again and again. If you truly love animals, I urge you not to support stores that continue to profit from live animal sales. Adopt from reputable rescues. Push for change. Don?t let what happened to Mabel continue to happen to others.

I will not be visiting this store again absolutely terrible customer service.
I wanted to spend £100 in store and I was told to come back tomorrow as it was 20 minutes to closing. Please don?t waste your time going in this store as I saw the same thing happening to other people and you wonder how they are still in business!
