My husband and I had a champagne cream tea at the weekend.
We live locally and have had many lovely afternoons/evenings at this delightful hotel.
As always the gardens are absolutely beautiful (especially as it was a blue sky sunny day) the staff attentive, professional and friendly. Although we are always happy with the food, this was by far the best cream tea we have ever had ! Enough for me to write a review as did not want this to go unnoticed.
The scones were delicious and super fresh as were the finger sandwiches (I'm a vegetarian so the choice is not always exciting, but it certainly was on this occasion) and the really tasty cakes. I usually take what I can't eat home, but it was so exceptional,I managed to eat it all !!!!!!
There was also no compromise with the champagne, it was top quality.
Extremely high standards, arguably the best on the Island.

Extremely disappointing in so many ways.
Old style Victorian hotel clearly requiring refurbishment.. windows in need of change, facade in need of renovation. Overheard three staff members joking 'this building's falling apart'! On the subject of staff, some (not all thank god) never offer a greeting notwithstanding the invitation to do so raising the issue of politeness and courtesy.
Room OK but had clearly seen better days most notably the bathroom.
Breakfast : day one half a croissant per person. I've heard of maximising profit margins but seriously?
Had expresso on day one and two before being told on day three this was extra! 4 star hotel, 19 pounds 50 for breakfast and an expresso is extra? The manager I saw said this was hotel policy based on the special coffee used in an expresso, the logical intimation being therefore that the normal coffee must be of a different quality...it makes one wonder.
Bin in room not emptied on day one and two.
A real letdown as I'd been looking forward to staying in this historic hotel although if truth be told historic strikes me as a misnomer. Antiquated would perhaps hit the nail on the head.

A great old Victorian hotel excellently landscaped with wonderful service. I have stayed here 3 times so far. My only gripe is that the rooms are not air conditioned and need a few more charging points for phones etc. however, still a wonderful place to stay.

A hotel that actually delivers what it promises.
The Royal has wonderful old school charm which is very rare these days. The Staff are very very attentive and seem genuinely interested that everything is right for you. (very rare).
The pool area and garden is the highlight of this hotel...if you hit good weather you will spend all your time here. very very relaxing.
The restaurant is proper old school great service restaurant.
My only slight warning is that if you visit during a heatwave I would imagine the rooms are very hot (No AC)...mine (on the top floor) was warm in just daytime temperatures of 20ºC, so in 30ºC I couldn't imagine it would be quite um hot!

Absolutely fantastic hotel we would like thank Caroline on front desk who made our whole stay personal and perfect..
The whole staff were absolutely great helpful and considerate rooms were clean and stylish breakfast is a little small but the quality of produce overlooked it .
Bar staff were fabulous at cocktails and nothing was too much trouble i dont normally write reviews but after our delightful stay here i had to.
Perfectly located to beach and local amenities

From the outstandingly polite and genuinley friendly restaurant and reception staff,who made our dining experience totally pleasurable,nothing was too much to ask, the tranquil,restful outside seating areas,surrounded by beautiful plants and blue skies..what was not to like.This hotel,being built many years ago,maybe does need a tad of updating in some decoration areas,however would love to return and experience it again..

Great stay at the Royal. Love the hotel design/theme/history.
We utilised the outdoor pool was was heated and clean. We were given a complimentary upgrade and breakfast was lovely, including the staff. We were not aware there was offers available so be sure to check that page on the website before booking!
Location is great, area was quiet and staff were all happy to be there. I would recommend this hotel.

I booked this hotel for my mum and dad and they had the best time. They had a wonderful room with a sea view and they also loved the restaurant food was amazing.
