Visited this establishment today (21August) for the very first time with my wife and sister who lives in Puckeridge. We drove from Chelmsford for lunch and decided to give the Golden Fleece a try.
On arrival we were greeted by Jade who was extremely friendly and helpful. Served us beer and wines and showed us to our table.
We had a choice of eating in the bar or dining room and chose the latter.
Not an extensive menu and a few lunches on the Specials board. But this is what we liked. Hate trailing through menus with many dishes.
We chose Chicken pie with veg, Sea bass with veg/salad and beef fillet strips with mushrooms and rice. Be aware that the food is not delivered quickly as it is cooked fresh on order and there is a sign indicating this fact. Jade was very attentive during our wait and had time to chat. Believe me it was well worth the wait. Superbly cooked by the chef.
Didn?t have desert but participated in coffee which was delicious.
Will definitely be returning soon. Excellent value for money. This place is a little gem and thoroughly recommend.

My walking group had lunch at the Golden fleece today. A very varied menu on offer which suited everyone?s taste. My vegetarian pie was delicious, mash was very smooth and a good selection of fresh vegetables included. Portion sizes very good - just what was needed after a 6 mile hike! A very big thank you to the chef who made the tastiest vegetarian gravy that I have ever eaten. I would totally recommend the Golden Fleece and look forward to returning.

We dined here on Valentines night- The Golden Fleece had a bespoke Valentines menu, every course was themed and every element sounded delicious. We enjoyed 5 course of excellent food- all beautifully cooked and very well presented, the lovely touches of sorbet ( with optional vodka)chocolate truffles after dinner and the table decorations made it all the more special- the entire evening was really considered and well done.
Their wine list is great- good value for money and a really interesting range.
The staff were all super friendly and professional.
It was an excellent evening - we will return soon!

Spent new years eve here for the second time and had a lovely experience.
Smaller pubs you worry if you aren't a proper local (we are from nearest main town) you won't feel welcome but we did. Lovely evening, friendly staff and good food. Less than £45 for three courses with coffee and truffles at the end and sorbet pallet cleanser, outstanding value.
