Had a great lunch here. The owner was a delight and very welcoming. The food was freshly prepared and tasted delicious. It makes such a change to see a varied and interesting menu with dishes all made from fresh ingredients. If you ever find yourself at South Mimms Services just travel about a mile further and eat here. You will not regret it.

Great little pub off the beaten track. Superb food, dog friendly place. Small, but amazing menu on a little chalk board. Very accomodating if you have dpecial dietary need! Well worth a visit. We will be back

We had a fantastic experience at The Black Horse in South Mimms. From the moment we arrived?over half an hour early for our reservation?they welcomed us and seated us right away with no fuss. The service throughout the evening was excellent: friendly, attentive, and perfectly timed.
The food was impeccable?every dish tasted like it had been made with real care and attention. From starters to dessert, everything was delicious. The drinks were also great and arrived promptly, and the setting itself is really charming with both indoor and outdoor seating available.
To top it off, the bathrooms were spotless?something that?s always appreciated and never goes unnoticed. We?ll definitely be back!

Excellent food at a reasonable price. Pub has a good degree of character. Plenty of parking when we visited on a June Saturday afternoon.

Such a great local pub / eatery! Sorry we didn?t photo our meals before tucking in. The homemade pea & mint soup, beef & Merlot pie, schnitzel, vegetarian Thai curry, Moroccan lamb casserole, burgers, fish & chips, goats cheese salad, sticky toffee pudding and plum strudel were absolutely delicious according to those in our party who chose them. Mixture of sides and ice cream for the youngsters all went down a treat!

Great little pub/ restaurant. Very welcoming and a wide selection of food available. Everything is fresh, we throughly enjoyed ourselves. The chicken schnitzel was amazing!!Lovely polite staff, we will be back soon.Thank you

Small menu, but great simple home made food. I had salmon this time, and a fantastic cheesecake. Its a classis old pub set up, not a fancy gastro restaurant. Lovely local ale as well.

Basically, the very unfriendly and rude young man on our arrival made me decide nit to stay. But, we were meeting our son and his family, and they arrived 5 minutes after us, so I reluctantly decided to stay.We were expecting Sunday Lunch, most likely my fault, then we got stuck with to be expected normal food that has not been freshly cooked on site.To summarise: failed miserably all round, ok for locals, but don't waste your time and money travelling to this venue, you will be dissapointed unless you like what defibately seems to be processed food.
