My new favourite local. I used to frequent more often but then we got a dog and no dogs were allowed.
Heard that the Tipi space allows dogs and it's great. The quality of food coming out of of a van is amazing don't let this put you off. I am definitely going back and now the terrace allows dogs you can eat from the main restaurant menu.
This review is about the Tipi space and it is seriously good. It has it's own kitchen and bar. Personally I'm not a fan of the beers they have on tap but the staff are superstars and I was able to get a Camden Hells from the main bar so all was well with the world.
Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed

We recently visited the Tipi Bar at The Tilbury in Datchworth and had a fantastic time. The atmosphere is relaxed yet lively, with a festival-style feel that makes it perfect for summer evenings.

5 stars no doubt about it! Don?t usually post reviews but we couldn?t not for The Tilbury. Visited on Saturday afternoon, young couple with our dog and sat on the outside terrace for food and drinks. The ladies who served us were wonderful and super friendly. The food was absolutely out of this world, flavours were incredible and everything was super fresh. Delicious!!! We cannot wait to return to try out more of the menu. We have recommended to everyone we know! Thanks!

Starter was beautiful, but main course? well!!
Yorkshire pudding was very well cooked, the vegetables almost raw (definitely not al dente), the roast potatoes needed a very sharp knife to cut through them. Chicken breast was really nice as was the cauliflower cheese. But all in all not in line for a repeated experience.

Had a lovely Sunday roast here celebrating 2 family milestone birthdays. We were so pleased to be seated in the snug and they let us put up decorations. The food was perfect! Thank you

We were at the Tilbury last night for my husband?s birthday. The food and service was fantastic as well as the atmosphere in the Tipi. The staff went out of their way to help make my husband?s birthday special, including getting the musician to sing happy birthday. The food was delicious and the jalapeño marg was 10/10!
We?ve been to the Tilbury 3 times now and every time the food and service has been wonderful.

Exceptional!
We wanted to come here weeks ago but had to rearrange so we've been looking forward to this for a long time.
Firstly, my wife looked stunning as always!
OK, about The Tilbury...
A lovely menu with an appropriate number of dishes per course (so, fewer dishes, but all done extremely well) supported by a very professional and friendly front of house team and a wide and well-stocked drinks and cellar list.
We had whitebait, pork pluma (a delicious succulent, well-marbled cut at the end of the loin FYI) , beef Bolognese mac and cheese, goats cheese and all sorts of things, all presented in imaginative, eye-catching ways, and adequate quantities that taste as good as they look.
Good value for money when you weigh up quality vs cost. We felt it was well worth the price.
This isn't the first time we've been and won't be the last either. A great effort from all at The Tilbury.
Our compliments and gratitude to the chef and his or her team for an interesting, well controlled menu, and our thanks to the ladies out front for looking after us.
It really was our pleasure. See you again soon I hope.

Our recent visit to The Tilbury in Datchworth was a delightful experience, offering fantastic food in a warm and inviting setting. We opted for two standout dishes: the pork roast and the crispy cauliflower curry, each delivering impressive flavors and thoughtful presentation.
The pork roast was a classic Sunday roast done to perfection. The pork was tender, with each thick slice showcasing juicy meat. The rich gravy poured generously over the meat added a deep, savory flavor that elevated the dish even further. The Yorkshire pudding was a standout element ? tall, crisp on the outside, yet wonderfully airy and soft inside, ideal for soaking up the delicious gravy. The roast potatoes were golden and crisp on the outside with a fluffy interior, providing that satisfying crunch every roast dinner lover craves. Alongside the pork, the vegetables were cooked with care ? steamed broccoli and carrots brought freshness and balance, while the mashed potatoes were smooth, creamy, and indulgent. Each component was prepared with precision, making this roast both hearty and comforting ? a perfect choice for a relaxed Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the crispy cauliflower curry was a vibrant and exciting dish that combined rich flavors with inventive textures. The cauliflower itself was coated in a crunchy, well-seasoned batter that remained crisp even beneath the generous helping of curry sauce. The sauce was warm and fragrant, packed with earthy spices that provided depth without being overpowering. Tender chickpeas added heartiness, while pickled vegetables offered a zesty contrast that lifted the dish. Crispy chickpeas sprinkled on top added a delightful crunch, and fresh herbs provided a final burst of color and flavor. The flatbread base was soft yet slightly crisped at the edges, soaking up the curry sauce beautifully. This dish was not only visually stunning but also incredibly satisfying ? a brilliant choice for anyone seeking a meat-free yet indulgent option.
Both dishes reflected The Tilbury's commitment to quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation. The balance of flavors, textures, and presentation showcased a kitchen that values both tradition and creativity. The warm ambiance of the pub, combined with friendly service, made the experience even more enjoyable. Whether you?re after a classic roast or something a little different.

Fantastic antic Sunday roast. Booked our table prior and was 15 minutes early. Table was reserved and sat us straight away. Great wine list and proper fresh food. All hand made with great yorkshires!
