A historic beautiful looking hotel and grounds, from the outside !! Stayed here overnight to attend the strictly live launch in Elstree. We were only in the room a very short time to change and leave for the studios and didn't return until 11:30 we arrived back at the hotel very tired so went straight to bed but on getting into bed a could smell what I could only describe as ammonium and it was bad, no I didn't get up and complain as I was just too tired but to be fair we shouldn't have been put in a room smelling like that. The staff need training as most of them didnt seem to be fully competent. The hotel itself inside does need upgrading especially the carpet throughout the hotel. Got up and left by 9:30am as I couldn't wait to get out of the room. Sadly won't be back

We spent two nights at Elstree Manor, a property dating back to the mid 16th century. We stayed in the Chelsea suite on the second floor, with a pretty view of the front of the hotel. The bar and outdoor seating were really nice (heat wave going on during our stay, so a Shandy was a welcome thirst quencher), with distant view of the City. A big shout out goes to the amazing pastry chef, Vikki (must try the magical fudge and shortbread biscuits, complimentary in the room). Our one regret was not being able to partake of the afternoon tea. We appreciated the helpful staff and the smiles? thank you for a wonderful stay. (Please note, the main building does not have an elevator, so you do have to carry your bags up two flights of stairs if you get 2nd floor rooms).

Be warned, this hotel is not 4 stars. I would rate it maybe a low 3 star at best. Premier inn is better than this hotel. We waiting at an empty check in desk on arrival for ages with several staff passing by without even acknowledging we were stood there. Eventually a man came over from the restaurant to check us in. The receptionist then appeared at that point and apologised to the man from the restaurant and pretty much ignored us. We thought this was very rude indeed! We then got into the room which was advertised as a ?superior? room. It was really grubby, dusty and run down. We don?t mind it looking tired but I would expect it to be clean. Thick dust on the headboard for example and only one pillow each. No mattress protector. No water glasses. Mismatched mugs. Missing chair. Smell in the bathroom of mould and like the toilet had not been flushed for ages. It looked like the room hadn?t been used for a while but nobody had then bothered to freshen it up before we stayed. I complained about the dust and the half made bed to reception and when we returned from dinner they had hoovered the headboard and given us one extra pillow. By this point we were laughing. It was a little like faulty towers! I never complain about anything, but I wanted to warn others about this hotel, so they don?t make the mistake of booking it thinking it will be lovely from the photographs. It?s more dodgy b and b then 4 star hotel.

Upon our arrival we were given room 40 When we got down there it was exactly what we booked it was perfect!!! Unfortunately the carpet was soaking When I went back up to reception they had informed me there was a leak on that floor but had not realised it was in that room and applgiesed..... Amazing customer service!! She quickly moved us to the main part of the house named Trafalgar And this is where my disappointment started The cracks in the walls Ripped wallpaper Stains in the carpet The ripped curtains etc The left over rose petals from the previous guest still a few on the floor We were told unfortunately there was no other rooms when I told her I wasn't to happy The building it's self is stunning The breakfast was amazing The staff are lovely The room I stayed in just needed some TLC Unfortunately this put a downer on my birthday weekend as it wasn't the amazing room we had first off

The furniture and the carpet were the filthiest I have ever seen in a hotel. The breakfast was very basic. Needed two rooms close by and we were given two rooms as far apart as possible. Will not go back EVER.

Beautiful place to stay. The rooms were very spacious and absolutely beautiful. Staff were very friendly and a lovely welcome cold drink by reception for guests. The decor is amazing, I wasn't here for leisure, however, I certainly would return and highly recommend a stay here. Lovely grounds outside, plenty of parking, and there is a restaurant.

We treated ourselves to afternoon tea at this lovely and tranquil Hotel. We were delighted with all aspects of the afternoon tea - the homemade sandwiches, scones, jam and cakes which were delightfully presented and delicious. Special thanks to Chef Diogo, Vikki, Alex and the front of of house staff for making our day. We will be back.

Myself and my boyfriend just completed a 6 night stay at the Manor. We were overall pleased with our stay but our comments and suggestions are as follows: The Good/Excellent: The staff - we were impressed by the consistent display of professionalism from the team operating the daily breakfast sitting. Martin who is at the helm is a great example of F&B hospitality excellence - he clearly takes great pride in ensuring the smooth service each morning. He is assisted by Alex who is also very committed to his role. It?s clear that there is a core team of dedicated staff who anchor the entire operation at the Manor. There is also a dark haired lady who deserves a mention I unfortunately forgot her name. But she was always on hand to help and to meet our requests. Breakfast - for the price bracket, the breakfast really was excellent. Very filling, a good selection of hot and cold options, great selection of beverages. You have the option of ordering off the A La Carte menu too which includes things such as eggs Benedict, eggs royale. All were cooked expertly well. The chef really takes pride in his job. It?s quite apparent from the way the breakfast service is handled. Kuddos to the team. No complaints. Parking - its plentiful. Grounds - stunning and quite extensive. The Not-So-Good: The rooms - they are rather tired looking. I appreciate that this is an older hotel but I do think the bathrooms in the rooms, for example, could do with a refurbishment to bring them up to scratch. We stayed in a super deluxe room and while the bedroom itself was a decent enough size, it felt like the furniture in the room was too big for the space. The gym - my boyfriend used the gym a few times and was really disappointed at the lack of attention the gym received. We appreciate that perhaps not many people use the gym often but the staff should really ensure that the gym is checked daily. He complained of a foul smelling dustbin being left there 2 days in a row which is indicative of a lack of attention. Once we reported this, it was handled immediately though. Housekeeping - whilst the cleaners did a stellar job by and large in our rooms, we did have to ask them to do a more thorough cleaning as dust had been building up around the side tables, television, window ledges and cupboards which was affecting our sinuses. Not pleasant and also indicative of a lack of attention. General cleanliness - overall, the standard of cleaning in the communal areas can improve. There was lots of dust, cobwebs and particles visible on the beams, window ledges and door frames in the main building where we stayed. We saw dead wasps and flies hanging around on floors and so on for a number of days before being eventually cleaned. It?s really not pleasant and I think a more thorough cleaning regime would go a long way to enhance the stay of future guests. I?m aware that The Manor is not advertised as a 5 star hotel so I?m quite mindful of not holding it to a ridiculously high standard. However, cleaning and housekeeping is vital for any hotel regardless of its star rating.

Recently stay here for the weekend and it?s an outstanding place, beautiful inside and out. The rooms are large and have enough space (travelling with a toddler?) the grounds are exceptional and well looked after. Marco in the restaurant just made our experience even better, fully knowable of the menu and he catered to our every need (toddler dinner time!) very polite and attentive. Will definitely be returning, thank you for making our weekend of family time even more special.

Expensive for what seemed a very basic room with a toilet that would not flush properly and a broken toilet seat. Cold room with no heating on offer. I would not recommend the modern wing room we had. Long walk to the room and without lifts. No bottled water in room yet they call it 4 star?

My partner and I stayed at The Manor after a trip to Warner Bros Studios (which was fantastic) and before a day in London to take in a show. Let's start with the positives...the main building has lots of history and character and the rooms in the main building are spacious. Like most hotels of this type sadly, they are tired, falling apart and desperately in need or refurbishment. Quite frankly, the flat screen TV and the espresso maker is doing little to paper over the cracks. Amongst the staff, there are a core team which appear to have hospitality in their veins, but they are outnumbered by students and other waifs and strays who are either earning a bit of cash to tide them over, or they're waiting for something better to come along. Many of the staff spend over half of their time apologising for their own incompetence. And then there's the food! What can I say? In over 30 years of eating in the widest spectrum of restaurants, I have never had cause to return a dish...until now. I was served the most inedible dish of seafood pasta I have ever come across. It tasted like someone had taken a bag of frozen (cooked) seafood and then cooked it again in a pan of cherry tomatoes before turning it into pre-cooked pasta. My partner's dish was even worse. It was supposed to be sea bass in a white wine sauce, but came with a brown, gelatinous 'gravy'. When questioned, the 'waiter' tried to defend this as being as the chef intended. Needless to say that was also returned. So if you want to visit a building steeped in history, then come and take a walk around, enjoy the gardens and maybe have a drink in the bar....and then go and check into a nicer hotel down the road.

The hotel shows signs of some disrepair. Our room was disapponting - after a long trek up/down stairs to get to it. It did not feel welcoming - very spartan. Toilet did not flush, toilet seat broken, bedlight light broken, cold (no heating) and generally felt like a cheap hotel room, not in keeping with the older public rooms that retained some glamour. I was very pleased to be only staying one night.

My daughters wedding went like a dream on Sunday. All staff were professional and looked after the wedding party so well. Martin and Marco supported us setting up with above and beyond service. The hotel is a beautiful and romantic venue, with eyewatering views from the terrace over the gardens and beyond. The executive floor suites are 6 star we stayed in the annex hence only 4 stars.

I was there on Sunday evening and what an incredible experience! We specially loved the service at the bar, Alexandra took really good care of us and actually took the time to chat with us. She told us all about this cocktails course that she is doing, and I can say its definitely paying off, that was probably the best cosmo Ive ever had,Thank you so much for the great service and I will be back very soon!
