Thank you all for making us feel so welcome! What a fabulous pub. Please pass on our thanks, yet again to 'Bongo' for the lift... saving our van from getting a soaking! We will definitely be back!

Have eaten at The Tavern often with friends. Food is excellent and Mark the chef is very friendly. Maureen the owner is always very welcoming and keeps a well stocked bar. Definitely worth a visit - you won't be disappointed!

Went for Sunday lunch . The food was very mediocre and a very small portion of veg . No taste at all to the gravy , and sat in a very hot small room with no open windows . Young girl waitress acted like she would rather be doing something she wanted to do . The pub itself however is very cute ,
Cozy and friendly .

We are not local to the area and were looking for somewhere to eat on a Saturday night without a reservation. They were able to squeeze us in as we'd arrived at 5pm. Thankfully they were able to accommodate us.
The food was tasty, the staff were friendly and the chef was chatty. It definitely felt like a nice and cosy pub. The actual pub room at the front was a proper old pub feel. Very small, historic and a nice coal fire. So quaint and traditional.
The food was fresh, made with good local ingredients and full of flavour.

If we could give it 10 stars out of 5, we would. We went in there expecting the classic pub food, but we were so wrong. The food is delicious, close to fine dining more than pub. We had the vegetarian options, and the flavours were amazing. To take something as simple as veggie bangers and mash with gravy and make it taste so delicious requires some proper talent. The mash was from real potatoes, the gravy was made there with some red wine as one of the ingredients.
The chef is very charismatic and passionate. He spent time explaining his cooking to us and how he's evolved the recipes and told us about the history of the place. And everyone else was so friendly. We loved the experience and it will definitely be a place we'll stop by whenever we go through the area.

A real ale pub that meets what you might hope for from that claim. Good service, great food, and superb beer. Do yourself a favour and try it.

Was staying over in kington and been here a few times now.. just the best rib eye steak and truly homemade chips. Proper log fire and full of old world charm.. have eaten at 2 other pubs in kington and this one wins hands down. Unpretentious and down to earth.

Very pleasantly surprised by the food here, so I felt compelled to write a review. We have popped in quite a few times for a pint, but never for food until yesterday. The atmosphere in the pub is very sweet and cosy with fires going when it's chilly. Good real ales on tap and the bar staff have always been friendly. The food though... we were very impressed! Really tasty, properly comforting pub food, all home made and with local ingredients too! 4 of us eating, two with quite specific dietary requirements but were catered for really well. This was the only place in Kington where we could find a good selection of gluten free options! The chef came out of the kitchen to check everything was okay, talking us through some of the dishes as we were choosing and ask how the food was. He seems genuinely passionate about his food, taking pride in how he tweaks the recipes each time - this was lovely to see. If I was to nitpick, the dining room doesn't have quite the same cosy atmosphere as the main part of the pub, so some tweaking is required here. That being said, this place is truly a real gem that is worth your visit and we will definitely be eating here next time we're in town.
