My husband is a craft beer and ale drinker. We dropped in whilst on a drive about. Plenty of beer choices from wye valley. Nice decor and seating area. Payground for kids. Will definitely pop in again when in the area.

We stayed in April 2025 and enjoyed The Cottage. It was good value at £130 a night. Quiet location and spacious. Fast broadband and small outside space. Cleanliness was not good inside or out. And basics such as empty shower gel dispensers were not replenished. Only some of the radiators worked (which I fixed). The clock didn?t work and multiple bulbs were out, extractor fan out of action. The mattresses also needed replacing.
We are staying for a second time, this time paying £190 a night. Amazingly very similar issues. Wet wipes and cigarette packets left outside, the same mouldy unusable garden furniture in the rear courtyard.
Light bulbs out. Cleanliness still poor. Pubes on the toilet, long hairs in the shower downstairs. There was even a disposable toothpick on the shelf in the upstairs shower cubicle. And the central supports for the bed downstairs simply so not stay put, hence the bed sags in the middle. Cheap furniture.
They have also since downgraded the TV which did have NOW TV, so it's not possible to use streaming apps.
The phone goes to their HQ in Essex and on-site support is remote and slow. No compendium to help you out.
£120 a night is ok to turn a blind eye on a few things. But £190 is enough to expect cleanliness, maintenance and service to be better.

Food is great value for money the basket meals are excellent. We have never stayed. Opening times have also changed. The pub is open now for lunch, which is great! Staff are friendly!

Had lunch today and the pizza and basket meals were perfect. Beer tip top too. And prompt and efficient service. Thank you!

We chose the location to be as close as possible to St.Machael's Hospice where my sister was on palliative care and I wanted to be available in an emergency as next of kin. Full stars for cleanliness and ease of access including parking. Walkable distance from the hospice at a push, about 2 km. Disappointed with the service. The Godwin's is a local pub with 6 rooms for guests. The staff cost for bookings, reception, food and drinks would be far in access of the revenue to be made so it has few service providers. Hence service suffers. The booking through an agency meant that we had to pay in advance and zero flexibility. We didn't need the twos nights we booked;we cancel in good time; there was no refund after payment as booking was remote not in Landlord's hand.

Pros:
- The crew was lovely to a fault.
- The building is amazing, dragon tree 'n all!
- Bus stop right in front of the building.
- The room was stylish and clean.
- Shower was great. Tall enough, with bleeding hot water and a good water pressure.
- Downstairs pub was very relaxed, nice selection of food and beer
- The breakfasts were delicious and affordable.
- Heating of the room worked great, even though the weather was cold.
Cons:
- 2-person beds are a bit on the small side for two people, but that is a great excuse to cuddle up :-)

After a long journey pulled into Godwins and wow it looked very impressive went inside and the staff were really welcoming and helpful I went for a quick shower then went to the bar for a few beers and a meal I went for the fish and chips and it didn't disappoint had a great time talking to locals really friendly people the room was really clean and warm which was an improvement on the previous night staying at what can only be described as the WORST hotel I ever had the misfortune of staying in

The pub itself is a lovely building. Unfortunately the landlady, Jo is horrid. Miserable, rude, antagonistic, dishonest and just, well nasty.
Constantly dropping the ?c?bomb?, complaining about how much she hates her job, and looking for arguments with anyone she can.
This however pales into insignificance to the attempted theft by her and her colleague. The pair of them took it upon themselves to take and hide a very expensive downhill mountain bike, (Santa Cruz circa £5k) which they attempted to conceal in their garden. When the bike was eventually located, (we stood on a chair and peered over the fence at the rear of the pub to see it) and we challenged her about it, Jo said she had merely ?hidden it? to teach us a lesson for not clearing our table!
Hopefully her attitude will limit her time there, as aesthetically it?s a lovely building and was a very pleasant place to go before she took the reins.

I stayed here with my husband to attend a friends party on 24th June. I paid for bed and breakfast. Shortly before our stay, the hotel emailed to say they wouldn?t be serving breakfast. Predictably, we were still charged for breakfast and I?ve been fighting ever since to have the extra cost refunded. Now I am just being ignored.
