Great home cooked food. A small menu but excellent every time. Fantastic pies. A good selection of Palmers beers plus guest beers. Never a bad pint. Well kept...A brilliant all round pub. Always well worth the visit.

We often cycle along the Test Way and this pub has become an essential stop on our journey. It's the perfect place to grab a quick snack and a drink. Highly recommend the scotch egg or the pie of the day.

We visited this pub today as we were were going to do a circular walk around the area. We ordered drinks and then sat outside and the friendly barman came out and took our food orders after telling us about the dishes available on the menu. The food arrived promptly and we all were very pleased with our choices. The food is standard pub fare but with a twist. My sausages were pork, goats cheese and watercress served with a medley of fresh veg and creamy mash. It was excellent. I would thoroughly recommend this pub for the standard of food and service.

Hands down the best roast in Hampshire!
The John o? Gaunt absolutely nails it ? from the perfectly cooked meats to the crispy roast potatoes and rich, proper gravy, this place delivers a Sunday roast worth travelling for. The food is faultless, the service is warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between cosy and lively. Whether you?re a local or just passing through, make sure this place is on your list. A proper pub doing things properly.

I first went to this pub about 20 years ago and I remember at the time they were serving Palmers beer, which was very unusual. Recently I've had to be down in the area for family reasons and have managed two visits in successive months. That alone should tell you how much I like the place. Firstly, and very happily, they still serve Palmer's beer. I tried the 200 (one of the best pints I've ever had) and the Copper, both were impeccably kept. Secondly, I ate on both occasions. The food was very tasty and hearty. Both times I left feeling very content. The pub itself is small and cosy, and the staff friendly. What more do you want? A bit of a gem. I'll be back...

Lunch stop during a long walk. We had the daily pie (beef and Stilton) and it was really first class. Light pastry, lots of delicious filling, perfectly cooked served with generous portion of fresh mixed veggies and mash. The pies are home-made in house by the chef apparently. My wife had the soup and the scotch egg starter also fabulous and homemade. Congratulations- perfect pub food without pretentiousness.
