So sad to see the demise of this long standing retail company to the point where it will no longer be on the High Street.
A truly British institution.
Although this store is not in the list of closures it may happen in time.
Just like other well known names we have lost in recent years.
Times and aptitudes have changed to the point where we no longer seem to purchase the items that they offer.
Hope the staff can get some clarity going forward.
As for the one star reviews here go and check your short tempered personality and come back with some positive comments.

It was -4 degrees one day and I go in the store with a coat on and my hoodie up like everybody else. (not completely covering my face) my hands were red and so was my nose as you could tell I was very cold. The woman at the till kept checking my money and no one else's to see if it was fake?! And then another woman comes and tells me to take my hood down and coat off the next time I come in?! Do you expect me to die of hypothermia?

Telephoned the store to enquire about A1 sheets of card/paper. Lady was not sure if they do it or the price. Not very helpful. Couldn't someone find out for me??????? Terrible service. So I should go elsewhere then. Sorry to trouble you. ?

I used the post office upstairs, there a young man works there, really friendly and helpful to all customers, the que was so long but you can hear him talking to customers he?s serving each one of his customers he talked to very friendly polite and helpful to them same energy with everyone. Well done

I recently visited the store today , one of the members of staff was very rude and condescending, when I asked to speak to a member of staff they told there was none available , I asked numerous times!
On leaving the shop I told her I would be making a complaint about their attitude and their response was ? good for you ?
I have low vision, a neurological condition and was asking if they had an item in stock , they wouldn't look , was disinterested and their attitude stunk!
Not impressed how they treat disabled people
Edit : funny that I?ve had another person respond to my review , by saying they were served by a gorgeous young lady - funny that because I never mentioned the gender of the person , clearly this has been written by the person involved and clearly shows their immaturity.

Natalie is completely wrong. Service was amazing and I was greeted by a gorgeous young lady. She was so kind to me and helped with all my needs. 10/10 would come again

I recently visited the store on a afternoon and had a very disappointing experience. One of the staff members was extremely rude and was racist, which is completely unacceptable. Additionally, the quality of the items for sale was very poor; many seemed old and overpriced. This was my first visit, and unfortunately, it will be my last. I am very disappointed with this experience.

Saturday sixth of April 2024. I went to the till that is at the entrance to WHSmith on the right hand side. I purchased some lottery tickets when doing, so I left a bag of expensive goods behind in a Marks & Spencer?s Union Jack bag I realise my mistake some minutes later and rushed back to the store. I was in a slight panic and I was put in my ease Immediately the staff that served me in buying my lottery. Tickets had a warm and reassuring smile and the manager produced the bag, that? I?d left behind .the staff? had pragmatically noticed my bag and safely put it behind there till waiting for my return hopefully.
Whenever I go into the store, I am greeted with respect, kindness and professionalism whether it be purchasing, lottery tickets or purchasing stamps. My treatment remains the same as there always the same continuity outstanding service . My appreci?ation to the member of staff who set aside my bag to the manager and to the store.Thank you, Wendy.

I'm old enough to remember when shopping at WH Smiths used to be a pleasant experience. Sadly now it's a soulless shopping experience.
