Really nicely laid out pub just a few minutes walk from the beach. Bar staff, serving staff and door security was all super friendly and efficient. 100% will visit here again soon

The Lord Palmerston is in a nice area and should be an excellent pub. However the bar serving area is poorly designed and managed. The beer selection is less than optimal for a Spoons. The Brunel is a better option with only a small outside area (Autumn 2024-early 2025)
Revisited end July. No Jaipur, no Shipyard, no light guest ales. No one cared. I had a diet Pepsi.
This is a marginal Wetherspoons unless you drink Guinness or lager. The Brunel is worth the walk, much better and the surroundings are grander.
I'm loathed to give a poor review but things need changing here. Even if you are going to Fratton for a match, go to the Brunel, not the Palmerston.

Food is very good value. You know you're not getting ripped off in a Wethers.
I always use the app so the food and drink come straight to the table.

Had cod and chips in here today. It was delicious. Beautifully cooked, nice white cod, crispy batter with no grease, lovely chips and all nice and hot. Service very quick and all staff I had contact with were very good.

We had lunch on Sunday very busy but the staff did cope well also had breakfast the following day early very good service and the food was good

A fairly typical wetherspoons that looks lije it needs some redecoration but the food was good and the staff friendly
