Staying at another hotel but popped in for a drink .very friendly bar staff .locals drinking so all good . very close to old navel yard (for Mary Rose/hms victory/hms warrior)100 yards/meters lot closer than hotel I picked , can't comment on food or rooms as didn't try , there is another pub close by so nice to have a drink in watch ?Nearby activities: Old navel yard

This is a budget hotel and you get what you pay for. Double room was small with bed against the wall, 1 stool available.No staff available except a very busy lady at the bar. A great deal of tooing and frowing to the sister hotel, Keppel's Head , for booking in, keys, breakfast.Worst of all, a very dirty toilet in the room, along with sweary locals, means a single star is generous, but I've added one for the Kepple's Head, where the staff, food and decor was excellent. The reception here took note of my complaint about the toilet, but this was a very mixed experience.

Popped into the pub area to get out of the cold and it was like stepping back in time - rustic charm? Could do with a bit of TLC decor wise but the service was good, the beer was good and at a good price - considering where it is located, it was nice to go somewhere without inflated prices.

Lovely place to stay as we were visiting family in Portsmouth. So convenient for the train station and all the local attractions. Very helpful and friendly staff. Traditional pub with good food and good atmosphere. Thank you.

Didn't even know this place was here. Impromptu stop for a drink on our way back to the train. A quick drink turned into roast pork. Great value and great well cooked food.

Didn't have a room here but we did have a marvellous welcome off Pep and his gang. So impressed we returned the next day. Sue behind the bar was lovely and chatty. Planning another trip soon.

Im not saying our room was small but when i put the key in the door it nearly broke the window...Room was clean but very basic for the money it cost. If you like a bit of space and modern fittings pay the extra and stay at one of the better known hotel chains, Im not posh but i had to think twice about moving when i saw the room but tiredness ended that thought. Just for the record almost next door is the sister hotel to this one, its called Keppels Head Hotel, we stayed at this place the night after and was actually a bit cheaper but a lot better. Book direct, do not use one of the hotel booking companies. Staff were very helpful at this hotel.
