When I saw the advert for this hotel, it seemed fine so I booked (non-refundable unfortunately) However, on arrival, I noticed a sign on reception stating that we should register our vehicle in the car park to avoid a £50 fine. This is fair enough and ensures locals don't park there and ensures adequate space for guests.However, what I wasn't expecting was then a request for £12 for parking fees!This is appalling and not what I'd have expected from a chain like Ibis in a smallish place like Portsmouth. The room was fine, although the shower room was tiny, tucked into a corner and maybe 3m2 in size. The chair in front of the desk had to be moved to permit access to the toilet and shower room. Had I not paid in advance on a non-refundable rate, I would have walked away to stay in my regular place, where guest parking is NOT chargeable. I was absolutely disgusted at this unadvertised hidden charge, although all staff who I met were very helpful and polite, especially Sebastian on reception. I will not return nor recommend this place. Due to feeling ripped off with this charge, I did not feel inclined to sample their restaurant either in the evening or breakfast so cannot comment on food or service.

Parking. Nice hotel, very clean & tidy. The meals were very nice and tasty, well really enjoyed a proper hot full English breakfast. On the downside our bathroom was tiny tbh, it was interesting (trying) to use the toilet. The beds are super comfy and the room is functional. The location of the Hotel to bars and restaurants was ideal. I would revisit this Hotel.

Nice enough, premium budget hotel. Our room was clean, and the hotel was in a good location for our Guildhall concert.Just wish the bar stayed open a bit later for residents.Get there early if you want to nab a (£10 overnight) parking space. Especially if you have a EV and need the hotel's chargers - they were blocked by non-EVs as there were no other spaces free.

The hotel is near the university library, faculty departments, etc. I am a distance master student but I like to visit regularly to use the facilities, meet my professors or simply for a change of scenery!Comfortable room, bar and restaurant below so I have everything I need. Will visit again no doubt!Walkability: The location is great for university students studying at Portsmouth and/or their family, friends.

Not a bad hotel at all! Stayed here on a business trip for two nights and was pleasantly surprised. Rooms are nice and clean a bit on the small side especially the bathroom its way too small but it did the job for two nights, slept really well not too much noise at all being right in the centre of everything. Service was a bit slow at times and was extremely quiet during the week. Had a meal in the restaurant/bar area The food and drink was nice and good value for what you get. The location is brilliant you have so much around you such as clubs, bars, restaurants, shopping and much more.Overall I would definitely stay here again the only small detail that lets the place down is the bathrooms in the rooms but that's a small detail, otherwise great value for money.

Great location, good value, comfortable and relaxed vibe in the public areas and great staff. We'd definitely stay there again if it wasn't for the bathroom. Just in case they differ per room I'll say we had room 407. The room itself isn't huge but big enough for the two of us to manage ok as though we were in a train sleeper cabin. It was clean, modern decor, had a comfortable bed and all the basics such as TV, kettle and a few sachets of coffee etc. However, the 'bathroom' was simply inadequate. There was not enough room to do anything. The shower was small, the wc itself crammed into a corner so that only a child could sit on it. You couldn't stay in the shower room to dry or wash hands etc so you had to try and get out into the bed area and that was made deliberately difficult by mounting the door the wrong way around so you couldn't step into the room, you were forced to step into the desk and only then close the door and step into the bedroom. It genuinely felt like someone with sadistic tendencies had planned the room. Such a shame because that was the only blight to our stay.Rooms: Great place to stay for anyone who doesn't need a bathroom.Food & drinks: We elected to eat our evening meal at the hotels restaurant. The food was lovely and plentiful. Prices for the food and beers were about on par for a hotel in a city. The lady who tended bar and served our food was efficient and friendly. Possibly the restaurant felt a little school canteen rather than restaurant? The meals took 45mins to come out which was odd as we were the first to order that evening. There was another gentleman sat and ordered after us and his seemed to come through a little faster so maybe our order got lost for a while?

Hotel was very clean and comfortable. Checking in was quick and easy.Parking was a little limited and an extra £10 per day, but better than nothing and there were spaces available when I arrived.Rooms: Rooms were modern and clean.

A really poor first impression!!I called twice the week before I arrived and did the online check-in to tell them I would be arriving at about 12.30am. When I arrived at about 12:40am I rang the night bell a few times and got no response. I called the hotel number which answered and just played music. I could see someone in the bar area but knocking on the door got no response. I had to resort to going around the building and banging on the windows to get someone's attention. I was let in by a man who was barely audible to check me in. No smile, no apology. I asked him to speak up as I wear hearing aids but no difference in his speech. I had to ask how I was to get into the car park. Then I had to ask where to go to find my room (he had just handed me a key and not told me what room I was in).The room etc was nice and very comfortable.

Good hotel in a perfect location to visit the University and surrounding area. Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Rooms are small but were perfectly adequate for our one night stay. Comfy bed, good in-room facilities. Very close to train station so great for us. We had a room at the back so it was very quiet.Safety: Access to rooms for guests only, although if someone was getting out of a lift on the ground floor, anyone could walk in.

Staff were good but the hotels awful! Food in the restaurant was terrible and the Nightclub over the road means you won?t get any sleep until 2-3am. Probably the smallest bathroom I?ve ever seen in a hotel room too.

The room was clean and comfortable. The service was great.A huge student party was on, but to be honest, it sounded like they were having the time of their lives! So I didn't mind too much.The location is close to Gunwharf Quays shopping centre.

First off with the positives. The staff were great and friendly. The breakfast buffet was good enough (your run-off-the-mill British breakfast buffet). The hotel is well positioned so that you can go to tourist places or the university if you need to.However, the room was terrible. First, it literally looked like a small train compartment. Very cramped for two people. You could not sit straight in the bathroom. Second, the sink only had super hot water that you couldn't hold your hand under for more than 2 seconds. There was no drinkable water or water cooler in the hallway either. Finally, there was a weird toilet smell in the hallway.We were happy that we had to stay there for only one night and got out of there as soon as possible! Will not be going back.Rooms: VERY cramped
