My wife and I ate at The Forage last night. The evening menu was varied although my first impression was that it was slightly pricey (I still cant get my head around food inflation since Covid). I was wrong. My avocado and smoked salmon was superb - more than enough salmon and beautifully presented, the same for my wifes avocado and prawns. We both ordered lasagna (not very adventurous given the myriad of other options I admit) for main course and it arrived bubbling hot and smelling delicious. The lasagna was obviously home made and both of us failed to finish as the portions are generous. The quality though is outstanding and although the restaurant is not 'branded' Italian, this pasta dish is one of the best I have eaten outside Italy.
The staff were friendly, polite and good humoured and asked us how much time we would like between courses so we felt we could eat as quickly or as slowly as we wanted. Unfortunately neither of us had room for desert despite the best efforts of the waitress (I suspect the owner or manager) to tempt us with the various cakes and deserts. Maybe next time....
The restaurant is not lavishly furnished or pretentious and has a more casual atmosphere, maybe typical for an eatery that is open from breakfast time until late evening. Perfect though for my wife and I.
I am pleased to recommend The Forage. We are only in the area for a weeks holiday so unfortunately wont have time to call again this time but the restaurant would definitely be a regular for us if we were local and we will return I am sure when we are next in the New Forest.

I had two meals here one was a breakfast fantastic i have to say they did the most amazing tomato's and a evening meal the menu lots to choose from really enjoyed will definitely go back

Felt like I was overcharged here when out with friends. Ordered a lasagne which was £18 and I was asked if I wanted chips. I assumed this was an option instead salad but I was charged an extra £6 for a little basket if chips which was annoying as it wasn't clear this was extra. The lasagne wasn't served with garlic bread where this is the Italian way or not I often have garlic bread with this dish so asked if I could have a some and I was charged £9 extra for garlic bread and cheese.... A very very expensive standard meal so we won't be returning here it's a shame we were left feeling like this as the food was nice but the prices you just don't feel like you are getting fair price. One of the kids had a £17.50 pizza. Again it was nice just very expensive for what it is..
It was also difficult to get the attention to order more drinks.

We had a fantastic experience at this lovely café in Lyndhurst! They were incredibly accommodating for our large group of 12, including a baby, a toddler in a high chair, and even our dog. The staff were friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived.
Breakfast was delicious and arrived quickly, all served at the same time, which was impressive for a group our size. We really appreciated that they allowed us to pay individually for our meals ? so helpful when you?re with a big group.
To make our visit special ? they brought out a complimentary slice of cake with a candle for the birthday girl, and even gave ice lollies to the kids!
Such a family-friendly spot ? we?ll definitely be coming back next time we?re in Lyndhurst.

Popped in on the off chance today and we weren't disappointed. Fantastic greeting by the gentleman at the counter. Order taken very quickly and food arrives not long after which qas great as they were ao busy. Mrs had wggs royale and i had eggs Blackstone. Absolutely excellent. Eggs were done to perfection and portion size if the bacon and salmon were most ive ever had. Definitely recommend ??
