Service from manager and colleague, was good and a nice atmosphere, food was overall poor - pork burnt end were just fat, grease and syrup - really unpleasant , mackerel was great, fish tacos a bit too salty. Main of £130 porterhouse ordered medium and well rested but was undercooked, tough with raw fat, likely from steak not being at room temperature when cooking, grill too hot and not rested long enough, the side of hispi cabbage was inedible as not cooked with core left in and the new season Jersey Royals were clearly cooked earlier in the day and not warmed up. We were comp?d 2 starters after complaining that the toilets were filthy (out or order noticed added shortly after), we were also offered the chance to talk to the chef when leaving which we declined as saw no benefit - we?d spent £226 on 2 courses with wine and service. And whilst it is a bit of theatre, please stop putting hot charcoal on to each course, removing it and leaving nasty gritty bits on everything. Evening held so much promise but despite attentive staff, food was poor. We still paid our 13.5% service charge as not servers fault. It was also amusing to hear the sustainability message surrounded by plastic plants hanging from the beamed ceiling and seeing all the apples and varieties of plums going to waste in the orchards.

We had a booking for four people for dinner at the Wellhouse. Upon arrival we were told our booking could not be met (as we had modified from 2 to 4 people that day). We were told the staff should not have accepted this modification from the duty manager. This was a weird start to the dinner as when pressed for why we were not called in advance, no good reply or apology was given.
After a challenge the staff eventually were wiling to seat us. Given there were empty tables through the evening this seemed to represent a basic unwillingness to accommodate us or a booking they had committed to.
Once seated we were subject to some fundamentally basic errors in service. It took over an hour for any food to come to our table. Other similar sized tables were fed long before us. Drinks orders were ignored, our drink glasses stayed empty for nearly half an hour. When The food did arrive it was mostly good but it did not make us feel like we had a good and authentic dinner. The portions were on the small side and meat quite plain for a venue selling their spice rubs for ten pounds a jar.
Whenever we raised any complaints with the staff they agreed but made no apologies and proceeded to ignore us for the rest of the service. This was exemplified by the duty manager ignoring us all evening.
We are local and want to support local but this is a shocking example where the staff did not care nor want any feedback to improve for others. I am worried others will be landed with a similar experience from this duty manager and the team which seemed to have slipped in standards compared to their reviews.
At the end we asked for service charge to be taken off, the duty manager had no interest in asking for why nor rectifying the situation. So disappointed.

The pork was really good and was great portion, chicken was okay for the three pieces on the plate, and fish is not bad however the portion was a joke. For £80, there?s just two small fish fillet, a salad and a side, which is not what you would expect when it is marketed as ?to share?. The salad looks more like the main in that sharing board.
It also took us over an hour to get any service or food. Our drink was empty for 20 minutes and tried to get the attention of the staff seems like an impossible task. The manager literally walked passed and ignored our call for service.
One of the staff apologised when we finally caught his attention, but the manager clearly did not care about customers service and made no apologies or recognition in the end.
The food may be ok, but definitely not the service we expected.

Had the most amazing food, the apple sourdough bread with smoked butter was to die for

We just ate here and all the food was delicious, from the lamb dishes to the vegetarian plates to the smoking sourdough bread dish. You can tell everything was made with great care. The staff was very kind and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and warm. What a special place -- one of the very best during a long visit to England. We appreciate the restaurant fitting us in at the last minute, and giving us a happy memory to take back with us to California.

Superb service, very friendly staff and the food was truly excellent. The staff also told us about the kitchen garden we could walk around where they do bbq lessons. We will definitely be back.

Original and brilliantly executed dishes sourced from local suppliers in a beautiful location. Highly recommended - no idea why this isn?t better known locally.

Great food and service throughout. Even bringing out marshmallows on coals for my partner's birthday. Highly recommend if you're celebrating something special or just want to treat yourself to some yummy food!

A great restaurant. Quality food and service that justify the prices.

We went to the Wellhouse for a family birthday and had a fantastic time. The food was fantastic, and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. All of the staff were very helpful and clearly were proud of the dishes as they explained them to us. The Head Chef invited us into the kitchen to see the wood fired ovens, and was very personable.
Everything about this restaurant was classy but informal.

Amazing dining experience at the Wellhouse. The food was unbeatable and the service and atmosphere matched this perfectly. Tom, Ed, Emily and Josyan delivered an amazing service and we can?t wait to come back. The food was beyond delicious.

It?s not often that you leave a review because you don?t always have time. But sometimes when a restaurant is so outstanding you need to. This place is phenomenal. It outshone the hotel which was indeed very nice. The food was some of the most delicious, unpretentious food we have ever had and believe me we have eaten out a lot. The vegetable dishes almost out-shone the brilliant meat dishes. I was so full but couldn?t pass up dessert. Special mention goes to the bread and tandoori butter that came out sporting a piece of hot charcoal. It was unbelievably delicious. Not to mention the flatbread with the gorgeous garden tomatos and burrata. Please do yourself a favour and if you are anywhere near this establishment, run, don?t walk! Quick mention of praise also for the chefs that come and introduce their wonderful dishes to you. Loved every moment. Thanks so much for having us.

We had a delightful experience. Our waitress made excellent recommendations. We had six small bites and sides that my wife and I shared, they were all excellent. The charred cabbage was amazing. The s?mores dessert was incredible!

What a fantastic meal my wife and I had at the Well House. The food was excellent, and the staff engaging and knowledgeable on the dishes, their preparation, and the provenance of the ingredients. They delivered fantastic flavours from the wood fired oven, demonstrating skill and originality. If you want to experience something classier than your standard bbq offerings I highly recommend it. We will certainly be visiting again.
