After viewing houses in the village last Saturday it seemed only right that a visit was made to what might end up being 'The Local.'First impressions were great; good bar area with roaring fire, bar stools to sit at the bar, separate restaurant-y bits, for which we made an impromptu decision to explore and partake. Now, two points that I need to be clear on:- I don't do reviews as I can never be bothered. Having just logged in to TripAdvisor, see my last one was in 2015 when I was less grumpy.- As I approach 50, I'm getting very good at the afore-mentioned grumbling. For example, only the day before was I having dinner at a supposedly decent independent local restaurant in Farnham, Surrey and I was bemoaning the fact that a meal was never that good and I was forever underwhelmed. Maybe my own fault and I eat out to often and take it for granted rather than a treat, but I never REALLY enjoy a meal any more.So it should not be taken lightly when I say that the "6oz rump steak, pulled barbecue oyster mushrooms, watercress, truffle mayonnaise, toasted ciabatta" was at the very least the best steak sandwich I have ever had, but quite probably the most enjoyable sandwich I have ever had. Beyond delicious. Not since I had pizza in Rome pushing 10 years ago have I celebrated a meal with this much aplomb. Being somewhat basic (or base) with my vocabulary, I (quietly) uttered several expletives during consumption about just how much I was enjoying the sarnie.Small caveat; I had normal mayonnaise as I don't care much for truffle anything.Feeling chipper and buoyed by the tingling in my taste buds, I jumped in and went for dessert too. A Biscoff cheesecake, vegan apparently, and by jove this was ridiculously tasty too. All washed down with a couple of very decent pints of HSB!I loved this first ever visit, and I'm pleased my visit coincided with what I understand is a new menu. Highly recommended from me, with the experience now possibly influencing my decision on where to buy our next house!

We had a fabulous family evening at The Rising Sun last night. The atmosphere was great, the food (Chilli beef, steak and chips and vegetarian) was all excellent and the staff were all lovely! Thank you to Ben and the top team

This is a perfectly pleasant pub, and for me t is a little hard to review. Nothing was wrong, but nothing was special either. I'd give it 3.5 if the system allowed. My food was OK but nothing special either. I had a pulled pork bun, the bun was so soft I couldn't pick it up, it had a sort of raw coleslaw which seemed to fall everywhere so I couldn't taste the textures and flavours together which defeated the purpose of it

Lovely little pub in the middle of nowhere. Food was excellent but a little too salty for me personally. Friendly

The landlord/manager Ben and his brilliant team were amazing at serving a walking group of almost 30 people with the utmost efficiency. We were in the 'Ski Lodge', which was warm and cosy and decorated for the season. The food was warm, fresh and high quality, and all 26 dishes appeared within 10 minutes. We loved our visit.

Lovely family lunch. Everyone had a roast. Loved the cabbage as an extra ?green?. Puddings delicious too. Atmosphere is great and service attentive. Only improvement would have been a warmer plate/ food so would have stayed warmer for longer ( that would make it a 5 star review!).

An excellent family lunch made even more special by the excellent food and attentive service, headed up by Jess. Thank you so much??. The family gathering had been a long time in the making and meant so much to all of us, Jess, you and your team and the kitchen made the occasion perfect - we are all so grateful. Once again Ben and his team have proven that the Rising Sun is the perfect venue for those special ?family? occasions.

I have been several times, and recommended it to people. The food is good, and the staff pleasant. The waiting times are quite unacceptable.

Went to the Rising Sun to celebrate my daughters birthday. I emailed in advance to tell them. I ordered a simply steak but they gave me a sirloin which was much more expensive. It was sort full of gristle, too too tough to cut and very disappointing. My daughter orders the salmon pasta. The salmon was like mush and had no firm chunks and was flavourless. My husband had the burger which was fine. No fuss was made about my daughters birthday - not even a ?happy birthday!?. I was then presented with the wrong bill to pay. When I discovered they had charged me for a sirloin not the simple steak I raised it with the waitress who just replied, shrugging her shoulders ?what do you want me to do?? I?ve eaten here before and it was great, will I eat there again now - no.
