I?ve found some cracking stuff in here and had a great experience with the staff. However, yesterday proved how vital diversity and inclusion training is vital in retail?A man came in who knew the shop assistant and she casually asked ?oh I thought you?d be watching the tennis!? In which he replied ?oh no the mens final is next week? (from here I knew that this was heading south). She replied ?oh, you not watching the womens?? His response seem to of caught us all of us off guard ?OH NO! Its just ugly foreigners!? He continued, ?oooo I know that?s racists?? the shop assistant gave an uncomfortable laugh.Speechless at this point, I was the one who left as I could be perceived as another ?ugly foreigner? and didn?t want to continue shopping there.Again, past experiences have been great with this charity shop and I know racism is a part of society if you?d accept that or not. Everyone has a right to feel comfortable barely existing in the same spaces as each other. Saying this it would be great if cancer research provided training for staff on how to navigate these uncomfortable situations.
