What an amazing place. The food was prepared beautifully and tasted wonderful. Service was at the right balance, very good but not overpowering for such a highly regarded hotel.

Been a frequent visitor of Heckfield for the last few years, and have loved their breakfast. Very disappointing to see a cheeky introduction where they have limited options from the ?kitchen? section to 1 dish only. As the dishes are plated almost tapas size, it?s definitely not the same value for money it has been previously. £32 for otherwise pastries/ cakes/ porridge and only 1 kitchen item is really expensive! Please change this back to how it was!

This was our fourth attempt. First time we had Covid. Second time Heckfield Place had Covid. Third time Marle had some sort of crisis. So this time we were excited and anticipating a memorable anniversary dining experience.
We were asked to arrive at 19.00 for a 19.45 booking so we did. I'm still not sure why, however we were given a drink and then we waited, with eager anticipation, for the interesting pre-dinner nibbles that showcase the kitchen's talents and excite the diner.
It was a bowl of potato crisps. Possibly the first time that I've had a bowl of crisps with champagne. I believe that they were homemade mainly because they were oily; Walkers wouldn't have required finger wipes. Otherwise they were identical.
We were ushered into the dining room on time. The dim and reverential lighting made it hard to read the menu but at least I didn't have to use my phone to do so. So that's a plus.
After some 35 minutes in the dining room our starters arrived. By then we had spent a depressing time examining the wine list. Given Marle's Michelin Green Credentials I was surprised to see the Corovin system used to keep opened bottles of wine fresh and at a premium. The Eto system works equally well and doesn't require a regular supply of rare and expensive argon gas.
Using pickled green tomatoes with my skate was an interesting use of end of season tomatoes but not the wow factor that I'd hoped for. Meanwhile my wife pointed out that her steak tartare wasn't even up to Côte standards. She's a serious tartare fan and doesn't think much of the Côte offering so that was hardly a ringing endorsement.
After quite a while our mains arrived. Turbot is hard to get right since it dries out easily. Mine was superb. The problem was the bones. I had been warned that bones were involved (the first time I've encountered that) but I didn't realise that I would have to wrestle with what appeared to be the entire skeleton. So a fine fish but not so fine a dish. Meanwhile my wife, who is a good cook, pointed out, again sadly, that she could do better at home with her trout.
Our mains were cleared and we stared glumly at our empty table. That continued for quite a while as the service staff cleared other empty tables and nattered behind the bar. Eventually, after quite a lot of arm waving, we managed to look at the dessert menu.
Whether I had a pavlova or not is an interesting but irrelevant question. What is more relevant are my wife's sorbets. The trick with any sorbet is to accept that it's going to be eaten with cold or frozen taste buds, hence the fruit has to punch above its weight. The rose in the rose and raspberry was probably east European Attar of Roses leaving the raspberry a forlorn and distant second. It's also tricky to capture the sweet and sour juice of pomegranate. Her sorbet was definitely pink and flavourful but did not taste of pomegranate.
Our taxi home arrived on time, they're good like that. All in all they were the best act of the evening. To quote Fleetwood Mac 'Never Going Back Again'.

The 'Marle' is the flagship restaurant of the hotel 'Heckfield Place', which is picturesquely situated in the Hampshire countryside. You can sit comfortably inside or outside on the spacious terrace and be attentively looked after by the charming and well-rehearsed crew (sommelier!). Really everything we tried on our two visits tasted great - from the very fruity cocktail aperitif to the great wine recommendation to the creamy 'Brandy Alexander' or from the light starter ('Courgette tart with gruyère & fennel flowers'). the mercilessly delicious main course ('Lobster, farm tomatoes, cucumber and bisque aioli') to the classically composed dessert ('Chocolate pave with roasted cherries and cherry cream'). A totally fabulous restaurant that I will visit again on my next trip to England.?

Disappointing and confusing menu which was unclear and not explained very well.
The main failure was regarding a lack of attention to the allergy requirements, one of our party suffered afterwards.
The ethos is to be commended but this is style over substance.
Lettuce and a few potatoes in the middle of summer is not quite the side dishes we expected.
In all, it took 4 hours for our lunch. The venue is stunning and staff were very polite but I'm not sure it hits the mark of what is trying to be achieved here.
Nowhere near the standard of the price.
Too many failures from one visit to ever consider returning unfortunately.

We went for a birthday treat and had a great welcome and a great time enjoying the food and atmosphere. There's a separate vegan and vegetarian menu which was appreciated.

This Green Michelin Star restaurant is an absolute delight to the 5 senses! With a menu that owes a large portion of it?s fresh ingredients to the farm on the property, the chef has designed a menu that offers deliciously flavorful cuisine that is unburdened with heavy sauces and overly rich combinations. We thoroughly enjoyed the light, fragrant fare, packed with natural goodness.Of course, the well appointed restaurant and terrace with sun kissed views of the natural landscape only added to the charm of the experience. We?re already looking forward to our next visit!Vegetarian options: The course menu is vegetarian although you can opt for a non-plant based main, as well.

We came for our anniversary dinner: the perfect dining experience. Seasonal ingredients served beautifully. If the Crown Prince Beignet are still on the menu, you can't order too many. Delicious cocktails with even more delicious non-alcoholic options.

We have been here several times, today was the most recent as it was my wife?s 75th birthday,we invited our son and his wife and three children,we arrived at 5.30pm for dinner at 6.00pm,the restaurant was empty,we ordered pre dinner drinks which arrived at 6.40pm,service was very slow, food arrived late and lukewarm, tiny portions, children very irritable having to wait so long,in fairness staff, excellent, many apologies for slow service, restaurant still empty ! Bill £700+ if you like long waits, tiny portions, mediocre food, this is the place for you.Final insult, our son arrived with a custom made 75th birthday cake for his mum,Heckfield said that if we wanted to eat this they wanted £8 per portion for ?slicing?the cake ! Disgusting !
