We visited for a spa day. The spa seems to have been done recently, it was lovely, clean and quiet. We also had access to their indoor and outdoor pool. The jacuzzi is small and can only comfortably hold two people and there was two people hogging it all day so we never got to use that. However it was a warm day so we spent most of our day laying by the outside pool. They have a QR code you can use to order drinks to the pool which was handy, however it didn?t seem like anyone was working on it at the start of the day as it took 45 minutes to get a cup of tea and a pint of Pepsi. Also, I ordered a pot of tea but they don?t allow china by pool so I only got a paper cup of tea - felt a bit of a rip off at £4 for a small paper cup of tea. They started getting better at being on top of the QR orders as the day went on. We also ordered a pizza take away but after ordering they told us we couldn?t get it by the pool, even though other staff said we could so some confusion there. Apart from this we had a lovely visit and would highly recommend on a sunny day

Really family-friendly venue. Zip wire, table tennis and table football - highly recommended!

Absolutely lovely.
We had a basic standard double. Spacious and clean, though zero character! Fine for the one night we stayed. Excellent location, beautiful grounds and characterful public areas. Great breakfast too . Would stay again.

Took my parents to Balmer Lawn for Afternoon Tea here. It is the only time I have visited and quite happily say that we will be back. Afternoon Tea was lovely. We couldn't finish it all and we were able to take the leftover cakes home with us. Unfortunately there was no photos taken as we jumped into the food. Decor was lovely. Staff were extremely attentive and polite.

If you want to chill or explore the Balmer lawn is the place to do it. Excellent value for money coupled with great food and service in keeping with a long standing tradition. The location is only 20minutes walk away from the railway station with connections to London and isle of wight ferries ( Lymington) also a bus stop on the road opposite the hotel. To get even more pampered there's a heath spa as well .we did take that option .We thank all the staff for a great experience and would recommend you try. Thanks Kempster BARRY (#%-&!!!! BOOKING. We spent the day at the river opposite the hotel. Lovely spot, not too busy and absolutely beautiful scenery and wildlife. Perfect for our dog interested shallow water. And a fantastic place for children and picnics.

I don?t like writing negative reviews for places I enjoyed being at, but although parts of this hotel are great, some are also really bad. I?m genuinely not sure how it has a 4* rating. I?ve stayed in even some 2* hotels that have felt more luxurious. The restaurant, bar and outside area are all lovely. As were all the staff. The breakfast was fantastic - although I will say, I wasn?t affected by it, but I saw a lot of people, waiting and waiting a long time for items to be replaced. My sister waited over 7/8 minutes for more eggs to be brought out, and when they were and she went to plate up, all the hash browns and sausages were gone. She then had to wait about the same for those to be replaced. They need to keep on top of that much better and start replacing / adding to the items before they?re gone. Mine and my family?s biggest gripe and disappointment however was with the rooms. We were all in Superior rooms, but honestly, there was nothing superior about them. No air conditioning, no fridge(!!!), the showers are awful.. they?re complicated to use and in all of our rooms, the pressure was diabolical - unless, you turned the heat up to temperatures that you could never shower in. At the right temperature, the pressure was awful. The basin mixer tap in my room was hanging off and swinging all over the place. We had a curtain missing. There were only 4/5 hangers in the wardrobe (which also had no door which is ugly), and just in general, the rooms felt like a 3* hotel at best from the mid 90s / early 2000s. As others have mentioned too.. the bed was not very comfortable and felt lumpy. Real shame because as I?ve said, the downstairs of the hotel and its staff were brilliant. But I could never stay again. It?s not exactly cheap either.. we paid I think around £460 for two nights per room. That?s a lot when you can?t have a decent shower, are boiling hot all night because there?s no air con, and you can?t even keep a cold drink in the room to cool you down. Really disappointing.

Visted the spa today for a massage. Beautiful location, very clean and calm. Staff were friendly and professional.
Menu looked delicious and we will be back with our dog to sample the food and cocktails.

Had a fantastic stay and would recommend it. The rooms had a cosy feeling but were well appointed and spacious. The food was great and the staff were amazing.

I had a great stay at this hotel. The staff were very friendly and provided excellent service throughout. The food was really nice, both at breakfast and dinner, with plenty of delicious options. I?d asked to be put in a higher room, and they made sure that happened, which I appreciated. The location is lovely and made the whole trip even better. They also accommodated my last-minute changes, like moving my spa treatment, without any fuss - which is great by the way. Highly recommend.

Delicious food and drink, skillfully prepared. Excellent service always with a friendly smile. Great location (feels in the countryside but very close to wander into town). New spa facilities are a real plus point.

We loved this place! The atmosphere is really cool, it?s very relaxed and the decoration is amazing. It?s a really historic hotel and a real pleasure to stay in. We went in June so lots of the ponies had foals which was really nice to see.
