Like so many culinary experiences in the UK, expectations do not meet reality. No one can criticise the quality of the food, which is excellent. Problem with so many of the tapas style restaurants in the UK is that they come nowhere near their Spanish cousins. Having eaten pintxos and tapas all over Spain; San Sebastian, Bilbao, Santander, Logrono, Valencia, Barcelona, Madrid, Pamplona etc.etc., I feel I have a wealth of experience and my goodness you need lots of wealth to eat at Pulpo Negro. £12.50 for 1 courgette flower yes, 1. We used to eat 6 for the same price in The South of France!! Good food but make sure you take out a mortgage before you order.

Great food using local products with a Spanish twist. Efficient front of house and interesting wine and drinks list at reasonable prices. Some reviewers have been moaning it is not a real Spanish restaurant. But the food is mainly what is sourced locally, not Spain, and I challenge anyone to find a better Tortilla than at this place. A lot of vegetarian options in addition to the grilled meats and seafood, something for everyone. Will return for sure.

What a fabulous tapas restaurant. Each dish we had was totally delicious, always innovative but the flavours were so right together and everything so well cooked and presented. The menu had changed since the last time we were here, and there are about 20 dishes that would take the kitchen a little time to assemble. But even with a full restaurant (including their cellar bar) service was prompt and efficient.
Dishes like the salt baked beetroot with a green garlic sauce and spiced creme fraiche, the wonderful lamb bomba, little gem salad with smoked anchovy, pregnant bread (actually little chorizo empanadas on honey and covered in grated cheese) and many more ? were all so delicious and different.
Cannot recommend highly enough. Lucky Alresford!

King prawn for a King's ransom.
A good attempt at individuality and taste. Padron peppers were just right - salty and zingy. Charred bread with a garlic dip was very moreish or is it Moorish? Depends who invented it. Patatas fritas were limp and bland chips that the local chippy could produce by careful neglect.
The highlight was a prawn for £20. Yes, a singular crustacean for this impoverished crushed-Asian.
The food is hit and miss and not really in the tradition of tapas, to my mind.
Service looks to be 2 tier, lots of attention for regulars/pals and not so for others. Good business sense, I guess.
Wine choice is excellent. The blackboard can only be understood by Only Connect contestants. Why so obscure?
This was our second visit. I'm now planning the third by filling out lottery applications and dreaming of 3 prawns.

I haven't eaten here yet but wanted to leave a review as the staff have been super friendly and helpful. We have had to rearrange a birthday booking on a couple of occasions and they have always been friendly and understanding of the situation. Looking forward to going along soon and trying the food!!
