Just had Christmas lunch here with our church family. I can honestly say it's the best one I've had for years. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff were polite and helpful. Will certainly be revisiting and can highly recommend it.

Fabulous food at the wheel restaurant ? I went with my mum and sister and had a great meal. It was a shame that there weren't many tables in dining, as these young students need the experience of a full restaurant. They are open Tuesday and Thursday for lunch at 12,12:15,12:30, and the same days but for the evening at 6 pm, 6:15,6:30. We arranged a table on the day so they do take in last min bookings and the drinks prices are excellent ?Highly recommend the fish n chips ? the fish was the best fish n chips I've ever had, the batter was lovely and light, and the home-made tarter sauce was excellent only thing missing was some mushy peas but the veg that we had to share between us was excellent and could have fed another 4 people, we had carrots, new potatoes, green beans with a ragu sauce and another portion of chips. Honestly, I can't recommend this place enough, and for the price of £17.95 ( for the evening/dinner menu), we all left completely stuffed. we also had a cup of tea at the end and a homemade biscuit ?Parking: At the evening you can park right next to the college. In the day I would recommend parking near the Royal mail across the road near the bus station as the car park is for staff.

I have always wanted to try The Wheel, so when the Mexican theme night was on the day before my birthday, it was the perfect opportunity. This is a college restaurant, with young people in training, and if our experience here was of 'unqualified', then when they are qualified any restaurant anywhere would be privileged to have them in their employ. From walking through the door the service was exceptional, attentive but unobtrusive, and anticipating customers needs. Modern clean decor set the ambiance that was a pleasure to be in. And all this before we even got the food, which was of a buffet style served at the table, Natchos and dips, bbq chicken wings, and little spicy corn on the cobs to start. The corn cobs where the nicest I have ever had. Pulled pork tacos, chicken enchiladas (or veg option) Beef chilli with spicy rice (or veg option) loaded wedges and salad bowls with Mexican dressing. Spice was perfect, just right not to hot, just perfectly blended. Dessert, deep fried dough balls with toffee and chocolate sauces and vanilla ice cream. Assorted Bavarois, Tea and coffee, As we say up north, "What a spread". Perfectly presented. The food fulfilled our ideas of traditional Mexican, and was fantastic. And generous!! we came home with 'doggie bags', and we don't have a dog. My son had an excellent lunch for work the day after! All I can say is Ven y come un poco - (Come and eat), and I can't wait to get back! I can assure you, the experience knocks the socks of many 'professional' restaurants. Well done to the young people, well done to the tutors and staff training them. See you again soon!

The Wheel restaurant ? Wigan & Leigh College is class. This restaurant is the perfect way for any inspiring young people who might be thinking of getting into the catering business. The Wheel is 99% run by the students who train there, from chefs to silver service to bar service, they control most of it except of course with the help of the very experienced staff just to oversee. We went for our Christmas day dinner and it was delicious. These young students did themselves incredible proud. The meal from starters to dessert where cooked to perfection and very well presented. The young students kept coming to our table to see if we were happy and we could tell a few of them seemed nervous but they didn?t need to be, as the very experienced staff were on hand who had done an amazing job with these young students.Even at the end of sitting they chefs came out of kitchen to see us, explained which part they prepared, cooked, presentation etc etc was very endearing and lovely to seeThe restaurant is very simple nothing fancy, but this is a place of teaching and all funds The Wheel gets get pumped into maintaining the restaurant and the college, so don?t go thinking is a swanky place it?s not, but as long as you have a good time with friends and family, the meal is perfect then who cares to be honest. They have limited seating and opening times so always check on their website and pre-book?you will not be disappointed and at the same time helping our future generation.
