Been here a few times for carvery with friends and my partner, came today and waited till 5pm for the beef, i was disappointed with the quality of food yorkshire puddings were dry and the meat was very thin turkey was dry and crumbled into nothing , not alot of veg to select from and what was there was dry, then to top it off the gravy had a funny after taste so over all i was disappointed in my visit,

Another great visit for a Carvery. Chef and staff all very friendly. Very reasonably price. Lovely views over Rivington pike.

Worst carvery experience ever! Everything was dry as a bone, even the carvers attitude, it used to be great but has seriously gone down hill, the meat was like dust, couldn?t even cut into the potatoes, the beets looked like they had been dehydrated and the gravy had a huge layer of skin on it, seriously, they should have been embarrassed to serve that to people!

The Royal Oak is, by an absolute million miles, the best carvery on Planet Earth, all other carveries are inferior to the master, James, 'The Chef' is Westhoughton's answer to Gordon Ramsey, he is a living legend whom excels in his trade, and that also applies to the outstanding bar staff that cannot do enough to make the vist an exemplary experience, the only downside, is the fact i can only give 5 stars, of which in my opinion, is nowhere near enough, very very highly recommended.

When we arrived we spent a little time trying to find a table that wasn't wonky and also many of the chairs were badly stained so we nearly didn't stay but we eventually sat down,I had vegi carvery and it was lovely and my friend ordered children's chicken nuggets as she can't eat alot but she struggled to eat them as they were very dry ,the food is reasonably priced but needs to be edible and would be nice to sit on a clean seat.
