The ramen was very good, however we had to wait almost 20 minutes queueing out of the door when we had a booking. There were a whole crowd of people in the same position so clearly they had way overbooked.

An atmospheric place, but we were put somewhere in a corner and forgotten. I had to call the waiter to order. The food is delicious.

Their ramen is top-notch?easily the best I?ve had in the UK so far! You can tell they specialise in ramen because it?s rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The sushi, however, was a bit underwhelming, but given that ramen is their main focus, it?s understandable.
Service was excellent; the staff were attentive and welcoming. The place does get busy, especially during peak hours like dinner, so be prepared for a queue. My favorite part was the atmosphere?modern yet infused with Asian elements, creating a cozy and authentic dining experience. Absolutely loved it and will definitely be back!

Worth visiting

Hello, I'm Japanese.
I wanted to eat ramen, so I did some research and found out that Maki & Ramen is a highly rated place in Manchester, so I visited it the other day.
I don't usually write reviews, but I'm honestly so shocked that I'm writing this review now.
Please understand that I am not writing this because I want to say something bad about the store for no reason.
When I saw the photo of the ramen, I thought it looked delicious, so I was looking forward to trying it.
The ramen that was actually served looked delicious.
However, when I actually ate it, the soup tasted watery and lacked any umami, and even though heat is important for ramen, it was very lukewarm.
The saddest thing was that the important noodles were stuck together like a bundle in the soup.
Perhaps when you boiled the noodles in hot water, you didn't mix them even once and boiled them in chunks.
The biggest problem is that the staff who prepare the food are not aware of it.
Usually, you will notice this when you add the boiled noodles to the soup. In fact, if you are a professional cook, you should be aware of this.
Or maybe they knew and didn't remake it. I don't understand this.
I know that Manchester is more expensive than Japan, but this ramen was not worth the price.
The only side dishes that I found delicious were the menma and wakame seaweed.
It was really sad.
This is the old problem of whether the taste is delicious or not.
I'm sorry, but I don't understand why this restaurant has such high ratings.
I understand that the ingredients and environment are different from Japan, and that ramen is a little different from Japan, but I think we should do the bare minimum beyond welcoming customers in Japanese by saying "Welcome!"
I will never go here again, but there are a lot of customers in the store, and I think the atmosphere inside is nice and calm, so I hope the food will improve.

Me and my husband went there last Saturday (Feb 22) and this Saturday (Mar 1)
Both visits were on weekend evenings with people queuing outside. We had reservations and waited about 5 min to get table.
On FEB 22:
We were seated close to toilet. My peripheral vision could literally see the inside ?every time someone walked in and out?which was distracting..This design against modest Asian culture and Feng shui. Maybe install a byobu or a curtain?
The food was delicious despite a slight delay in serving. Loved the wasabi and matcha brûlée. The staff seemed working on autopilot.
At checkout, we asked if they do NHS discount, as my partner had his NHS staff badge. The staff instead asked for a Blue Light Card. He luckily had that too, so we got the discount?NHS staff, take note: this restaurant may require a Blue Light Card to use the NHS discount.?
On MAR 1
It was the day before my birthday, I planned to redeem a free ramen reward via loyalty program. When ordering, I opened my membership profile, which displayed a QR code and reward details. I informed a staff member I would like to redeem it. She told me to wait, then disappeared.
The second staff member came to take our order after a while. I again mentioned the birthday reward, and she asked for my ID. When I said sorry I forgot my ID, she said wait and also disappeared?
Later came the third staff member, this time with an iPad. Again, I explained my situation and was asked for ID again. Although I showed them full access to my membership profile, but that wasn?t enough? She now wanted me to provide an email confirmation. I had to search on mailbox and eventually found that, which clearly stated: ?To claim your gift, just scan your QR code on your profile when you visit ( Heads-up to future customers? Bring ID to this restaurant! Ensure your membership name and birthday match your legal documents, and have the email proof handy if you plan to redeem a reward)
Most staff functioned like robots with tired expressions, going through the motions of mechanically shouting ?????????? (welcome) and asked if we liked our food without any real engagement. The whole place felt a little understaffed. No genuine hospitality like a real Japanese style.
Dish were dropped off at the table, and staff immediately rushed away, making it difficult to ask for anything.
The Tiger Rolls arrived with a piece tipped over. A flying ? was around. Given freezing cold outside, these were definitely from inside the restaurant. That fly even landed on the teriyaki sauce..
Dessert was served without a spoon. As ice cream started melting. I looked around, everyone was so busy. I had to interrupt a staff member to get a spoon. He brought me two large dinner spoons instead of a proper dessert spoon.
At checkout, the lady who assisted us (dressed in black), provided warm and smooth service. She smiled and and even wished me a happy birthday. That was a nice touch! X

Good food, nice service. The only issue was we ordered noodles for a child and ramen for adulds. And we recieved child?s noodles ten minutes after we finished our ramen. But anyway the food was nice ant tasty but noodles were a bit too sweet, but just only comparing to my oun taste.

Food quality was good, however regarding sushi, you have a limited choice. Many rolls are missing compared to other sushi places. Atmosphere was great and service was excellent. 10-15 euros per roll of 8 pieces!

The food is great. I love their black dragon roll, their garlic ramen is great, and so is the takoyaki (freshly made and crispy on the outside). They have plenty of vegan options and they?re quite welcoming, they bang a gong for every new visitors and all the workers say what I?m assuming to be ?welcome in Japanese. Menu is easy to read and aesthetically pretty.
One issue I have is the servers. Oh god. I?ve been here twice now and both times the servers have been so unfriendly. They mutter and mumble and you can?t understand them through their accent on top of their low volume. They cut you off, they wait impatiently looking like you?ve just kicked their dog, like you?re making their life so miserable. Makes for a very awkward time because they make you feel like you?re doing something wrong.
So if service isn?t a big deal to you, this is a fine Japanese establishment to go to, but if you don?t want to have an uncomfortable experience when out with friends or family, don?t come here.

I was charged 10% for the service without being informed about it in advance. Additional star for tasty food.

Food was pretty good but wasn?t that hot when it came out. The katsu curry also only came with one tiny piece of broccoli and carrot. The staff were nice and friendly and the seating was clean and well laid out. Will probs go again :
