Another great family meal (for Mother's Day) - lovely food as usual and professional, friendly service.
Two minor criticisms however. The ice cream dessert may as well be taken off the menu. The portions are tiny and vanilla, strawberry and chocolate flavours are just boring these days and it was served in one of those steel dishes from the 70s. The ice cream also looked as though it was from a tub of Asda's neapolitan!
The Americano coffee was served in a huge glass cup with a single shot of espresso (based on the price of a single/double espresso). Unsurprisingly it was like dishwater. Even with another shot in it, it was weak. A double shot in a smaller cup please guys!!

Planned to go for dinner on Saturday evening. There was plenty of availibilty online up to 9pm. I didn't book as we had some taxi driving the kids around to sort. We arrived at 7:55 and was told the kitchen was closed. They were still bringing main meals out at quater to nine. We got a cab home and had beans on toast.

Booked this restaurant for a meal on a Sunday. The booking needed to be confirmed by adding card details in which I did however when I rang restaurant up to confirm time, the booking had been deleted and the restaurant was fully booked. The person who answered the phone was patronising and of little help.

Overall the stay was good. Didn't check it's location, so didn't realise it sat at the top of a very steep brew (road). Difficult to walk into the town centre if you have leg issues. Boutique Rooms, look to have been recently refurbished to a high standard. Considering this, a continental breakfast left in room weekdays, with a cooked breakfast in restaurant area at weekends (that was the fantastic). Stairs to the five boutique only, no lift. Staff were very helpful and courteous. Busy time of the year so restaurant was full at evenings, but they found room for us. Thank you for that. Although the window was double glazed, the frames were not, so the road noise was clearly audible in the from room we occupied. They do real ale (Wainwright's - it's a Thwaites establishment).
Rooms: A good size well furnished room with a wet room shower.
Safety: Stairs about steep, part of the buildings nature though.
Food and drinks: Was exceptionally surprised with the food in the evening and the cooked breakfast.

Great food and service. All got a bit noisy for us, but you can't have everything

Went to Eagle and Child for food a couple of months ago, and we were very impressed. I had the butter fried chicken burger which was pretty good. After a good first experience we decided to go again and it was a disappointing experience.
Got a fish and chips today. Fish felt a bit stale and didn't taste good at all. Curry sauce was alright. My had a steaksandwich, and she didn't like it as well. Our second visit here was huge disappointment cause we had high expectations after the first visit. Not sure if I'll want to go again.
Food and drinks: Described the food experience above.

We booked a table for a meal for 5. After looking at the menu I was surprised by the prices to say that it was a pub/Inn. I had the fish which for me was overcooked. The batter was very crispy and by the end was brittle and difficult impossible to eat. However I would say that the other 4 meals were perfect. The prices at the bar was rediculas I paid £6.20 for a pint of Larger allthough this was a premium larger compered to other pubs in the same area was over the top. Finally to end when I received the bill there was a 10% service charge of 22.70 !!! I was very upset ? and if I had not been out with my family I would have strongly protested. I will not be returning.

Lovely atmosphere and great service, but disappointing food for the price. Bland hummus served freezing cold directly from fridge.

The eagle and child a few months ago had amazing food, probably the best steak in the area. We visited this week and we're disappointed with the food, the fish was double fried which was really crispy but the interior mushy, another dish was the chicken burger which it was great to see 2 fried thighs but these were really greasy. It was as though no time had been given for them to rest before loading them to the bun or serving, it wasn't nice at all. Only because of the first few experiences and the lovely staff can I say the rating is a 4/5 ... the latest visited is more 2/5 also because the menu was more limited and lack of beers and ales available.
